Does student loan debt relief only for undergraduate degree related loans make more or less sense to you?
Does knowing that about 40% of student loan debt belongs to graduate degrees/ law degrees / medical degrees change your opinion at all?

No student loan relief makes sense to me.

Also fine with child tax credits.

No, it doesn’t. I’d support forgiving up to $10k. Beyond that, no soup for you!

I absolutely hate these statistics. It’s probably 40% of loan balances that belong to graduates, not 40% of the promissory notes.

Source? That doesn’t make sense and not something I’ve seen in the research. It’s always about loan balances

Just stop gouging us with insane interest rates and maybe we can pay it off some day

👆 this. This is precisely what people don’t understand about the problem. And the complete inability to discharge in bankruptcy

I will say that even professional degree debt is a problematic - it’s not as bad as poor people undergrad debt, esp from predatory institutions, but it’s a pretty perverse incentive for a lot of other people too - doctors who have 400k in debt and become internists making 200k a year have a fairly unpleasant road that can be a major deterrent to pursuing medicine, for example. Not to say this is as bad, but it’s not just economically inefficient outcomes at the bottom. I’d imagine law is at least a bit similar from what my biglaw friends tell me (other structural problems here too, though, I’d think - TL, thoughts?) in terms of what types of work you have to do to have a semi-reasonable payback period (small number of corporate law jobs that do this vs number of grads, etc.). Again it’s not to say that these people should be given targeted relief, but just that it’s a little more nuanced even with graduate debt and the burden it puts on both incentives and productivity.

I have a question for my fellow PI paralegals in Texas. TPCIGA requires that we submit all medical bills through the clients insurance before proceeding further. The client in question has Aetna. I sent the bills with a cover letter to Aetna via certified mail. I am having so much trouble getting a status on said claim. Does anyone here have experience with that and can assist me? Any help or guidance is appreciated.

Does anyone have family members who constantly demand money because they feel like you’re rich now because you’re a lawyer? I’ve always wanted to be in a position to help my family but we all live in the high COL city so my salary doesn’t carry me as far as it would elsewhere. I’ve given a detailed summary of all of my expenses yet every month one family member in particular comes to me for rent money (not some, the full amount, and they refuse to get a job). It has become quite the burden.

I've been thinking about a concept: essentially a decentralized exchange similar to Kyber, except it would also have the comparability to issue new tokens on the platform. A new ICO would be proposed on the exchange, and the issuer would be able to also upload information about the project (white paper, code, statement from founding team, etc). P2p would ensure that information uploaded would be linked to the original issuer and prevent false info on ICOs which is currently rampant. Investors could then use existing tokens they have listed on the exchange to stake into the new ICO under a set of rules established by the issuer using smart contracts (ex: first 1000 bitcoin would get x tokens per bitcoin, next 1000 would get y amount of tokens, funding is capped at a certain amount, or however they want to conduct their funding round). Issuer can also set a threshold to return funding if the adequate amount of seed funding isn't reached, in order to eliminate underfunding of projects which often drives coin values down to zero. After a certain amount of time on the exchange, the promised ICO coins would automatically be issued to investors and immediately listed on the exchange for trading.

Any coins staked on the actual exchange itself would generate a return of a percent of every transaction.

I think this would make ICOs very transparent, enable regulators to easily monitor ICOs, reduce a large portion of the risk associated with new coin offerings, and open the door for accountability for founding teams and potential legislative recourse. Right now, someone could write a white paper and a few thousand lines of code, pump and dump Reddit, issue an ICO, collect millions in bitcoin/ether, and then abandon the project with no transparency or consequence.

What are y'all's thoughts on this kind of protocol? It's just a curiosity that's been rolling around in the back of my mind for a while.
