You will never hear a company say "dang, if only you weren't a CPA." It can literally only help. I wouldn't have gotten my new job without it.

likehelpfulfunny

Yes. Go to indeed and look at postings and you’ll see most positions require/prefer both the CPA and PA experience

like

It’s not that the CPA itself pays more, but it makes you eligible for higher paying jobs where CPA is required.

likehelpful

Yes it does. Most job postings say “big4 and Cpa” preferred. It won’t automatically keep you down (I’m not big4 and have gotten amazing exit ops) but it definitely gives you a leg up. Some roles they won’t consider nonCPA at all. It is less important in industry because you don’t need to “sign” an audit opinion or tax return but it is still the gold standard that people use to measure accountants even in industry.

like

What exit ops have you seen? What pay were they offering?

CPA is huge.

I’ve gotten an interview and job offer from a Fortune 500 company that said CPA preferred. I don’t have one and I don’t plan on getting one since I don’t need it for advisory. It’s all about how you sell yourself.

I'm guessing you're in risk advisory? What role did you get an offer for?

Follow your passion and the money will come. Focus on money first and you will never be happy.

That’s a great mindset to have

Think of it this way. If you otherwise happen to be basically tied in the selection process for a job you want, and you don't have your CPA, they are more likely to hire the other person. If you don't get your CPA you are stacking the odds against you

Yes it does.

I don’t have it and I will say yes, it definitely does.

Have an offer from Deloitte doing the exact same thing I do at KPMG for 45% more. Partners at KPMG have basically told me they can get close to matching but not until raises happen in October. Should I trust them or jump? Worried about having to build an internal network from scratch at Deloitte but also worried about getting screwed in October and getting like a 10% raise only. M2 if it matters. Thoughts?

I'm honestly very open to multiple pathways and at this moment aiming for promotion and exposure asap!
