What do we think of big corps (like my employer) actively fishing for entrepreneurial talent? I myself joined after a failed startup + am always happy to meet fellow (ex-)founders at Invent, so think it’s great that we’re actively attracting them - what do others think?

If you're following Geoffery Moore's adoption curve, you won't be generating cash for at least a year. Rather, you'll be selling the alpha version of your product to Early Adopters, who won't have any money for you. Instead, they'll be your references when you start chasing companies with budgets. So, make sure you have lots of cash for that first year to 18 months - either your own or investment from Angels. To answer your question - starting a company during down economic cycles makes sense because budgets are tight and talent is plentiful. Then, when you get past the Early Adopter (free) phase, the economy has typically turned around.

Many great answers. I agree in that this is actually the best time to start a business. Depends of course what you have in mind. What do people need to spend their money on. Supply a need or a solution.
