The DMV’s industry is govt. There is a whole world of opportunities to grow outside of this sector. Less regulations and red tape as well. Make a leap! This area and its opportunities will always be here if you decide to come back.
I say this as a local who moved away & came back. It was eye opening to see how many more markets and opportunities existed outside of this realm.
Thank you this is helpful, mind sharing what made you decided to move back?
In a potential recession, when commercial consulting firms are cutting back hiring and the government isn’t? Yep, the area where all the federal analysts and analysts catering to federal clients work has more opportunities

Agree with D2’s point. I bounced from SF and back. The DMV’s paradox is that its benefit is its drawback. 90% of the work around here is either govt, govt-related, or indirectly feeds off government spending for its revenues. So the region’s economy is stable because the government is going to spend regardless of growth or downturns. But, the drawback is that all the work is ... surprise ... for the government — less diversity of sectors and the same issues of bureaucracy, politics, etc.
Hasn’t always been the case though has it? E.g. the shutdown last year—I don’t believe contractors were reimbursed as they provided no chargeable work. Happy to be wrong.
