Depends on how big you want to grow the practice. It can go either way

I believe it also matters how much you wish to invest in creating workflows and hiring support & operations staff. Much of advisors’ time is spent doing work they can delegate.

Of course it lessens over time. Otherwise you’re not doing something right or you’re with the wrong firm. Put in the hard, long work upfront and you can dictate the quantity and quality of work you do one day. Over time, one of those will go down...while the other goes up. But these’s no shortcut to success.

Mistakes are the learned lessons to a better career. But every time I have made a mistake, it seems like it is the end of the world. I want to hear stories...of a time where you made a mistake and your superiors did not freak out, but used it as a lesson for you. does that exist anywhere?

Here’s a reminder for my perfectionists, first/second years, and those of us questioning if we’re doing enough. Your lessons do not need to be incredible this year. Fall back on some of your favorites, do what you can, and make sure you’re allocating time for yourself everyday. Yes everyday or else you will go insane. End each day by saying you did your best and no matter what mistakes you make or if lessons flop, try again the next day. You. Are. Human.

How do I not feel bad that I’m interviewing at another firm? I haven’t told my manager or team anything, and I really like them and don’t want to leave them hanging, so it feels like I’m betraying their trust. I know that I’ll have to at some point. Any advice?

Pretty torn between CSR and Amex Gold cards. Ignoring annual fees, I’m torn between points earning potential. With most of my budget going towards discretionary spending (dining, groceries, drinks) the Gold has an appeal, yet CSR’s broader definition for travel might even out the point earning potential (ie covering full cost of one Airbnd for several friends would be a big point generator). Are there any other major factors I might not be considering? I’ve gone thru the TPG review FWIW.

Leaving my glorious M role for an L7 nontechnical position at Amazon. For those looking to exit consulting, here are things that worked for me: 1. Be patient. I looked for over a year before finding this and dealt with tons of ghosting, rejections and discussions that were a waste of time. 2. Don't filter out locations. If the role looks like a good fit, apply. In my case this was a really niche job that is tough to match so we worked out a compromise where I won't need to relocate. (cont'd)
