Does this happen to anyone else: whenever you think that a matter that you hated has gone away it comes back? Like literally a matter I hate came back the NEXT day after I thought to myself “dang glad that matter is over” and after months of radio silence.

Never take these deals off your current matters list. As soon as you do that, they ALWAYS come back. Let the name sit there for years - it’s like a magic force field that keeps the deal inactive.

Haha ya I guess I should! Thanks

There’s a low dollar matter with a pro per plaintiff that I cannot fuckin’ settle. Which is probably why the client sent it to us rather than handle in house. Pro per isn’t a lawyer, so negotiating even basic things like protective orders is like pulling teeth. Client has a dollar limit for settling nuisance value cases like these. Pro per won’t make a counter demand no matter how many variations on settlement offers we make, because it’s all about the principle of the thing for him. Every time I think we’ve made progress, we take like 5 leaps backwards.

Either this case needs to die or I do. I’ll take any escape at this point.

I am from GDS consulting.
I joined from another firm to GDS when I just became a CA with a 42 percent increment from my peanuts in oct 2020 . That got revised by 24 percent in oct 2021 and now by 10 percent in mid year. A lot of my colleagues became managers. They might be getting 18 lakh plus. One of the senior 4 like me is getting 2.5 lacs more than me.
I am not saying that I have the best package, but I remember where I came from. Things have could been better, but they are not bad either:)

Hi folks, I've been offered for the role of devsecops engineer at cisco. I have put my resignation last day is on October and my current company is asking if i could consult for them on hourly basis if possible. I thought of asking my cisco HR but thought I could ask here. Is there any constraints which stops us from consulting? Will it conflict with the cisco contractual policies? Any leads would be appreciated.

How do you deal with anxiety at work? I get very anxious when things are out of my control, and also when not being able to check emails 24 7. It always turns out things are fine and there was no need to be that anxious. I think I make this job even more stressful than it needs to be. Any advice?

How does hourly contract lawyering work? I’m on a contract through a recruiting firm before the company hires me directly. My pay is hourly but I get time and a half for over time. Plaintiffs counsel took my clients deposition today. He mentioned that he would likely be ordering the transcripts and I suggested we split the cost of them (in front of court reporter). He got pretty defensive and said absolutely not, it’s unfair to the court reporter, and that it is frowned upon in the industry to do that. Each party orders (and pays for) their own copy. I’m in my 2nd year of practice, never heard such a thing. I’ve actually split the cost before! Curious for insight on this…
