I've worked at the same engineering firm for 4 years. I'm currently making $161k with only a $750 bonus, but excellent vacation (4 weeks, cash out anytime, rolls over indefinitely), 45 hours a week. I have an interview with a recruiter at Guidehouse this week for a Technical Project Manager role. It seems to be focused in the government space and requires a security clearance. What sort of salary and benefits could I expect for this sort of role at Guidehouse?

Get a new employer!! I’ve taken plenty of PTO at my newish company (some 15 days in 9 months). A lot of 1-2 days here and there, and then one 4-day trip. Plan to just use some more PTO around thanksgiving and Christmas, which is actually super nice bc when I had limited PTO, I would always question whether I should save it and “work” if it was going to be chill during the holidays. Now, I just use it because everyone else is going to be, and now I’m really off the hook!

It is a trap. My wife works in a firm that has unlimited PTO and it is always a struggle to get her to take time off because she feels it will be seen as her taking advantage of the policy. Having fixed number of PTO pregdeclared is much better imo.
Makes sense. I face similar struggles + companies feel like you owe them for letting you take time off especially during busy periods
