Does working for Partners (particularly Boomers) of your respective ethnicity or diversity demographic feel like the ultimate haze? Do you feel like they haze you worse than your non-diverse peers?

I have had the pleasure of being mentored by another fellow female of color and I do a lot of work for her. While I’ve loved the amount of care and guidance and mentorship I’ve received from her, I’ve also felt like she kind of expects a lot personally from me. She wants us to click on a certain level that doesn’t feel organic sometimes. Sometimes her way of operating borders on intrusive and not professional. So maybe not directly on point to what you’re calling “hazing” but I feel you ha!

I’m a Hispanic male; I’ve worked under other Hispanic males, Hispanic females, and white males and white females. So far my favorite bosses are current boss, a white female, and my most former boss, a white male. My least favorite boss was the Hispanic female, who would constantly yell and freak out and (literally) tear up your work in front of you if she didn’t like it. I don’t think it was a matter of her hazing her own people, I think it was just her personality. She was a very vulgar and brutish person; however, I won’t tarnish her memory as she passed away a few months ago.

Maybe the see themselves in you and want you to be great. #toughlove

My company is in need of a update online, could use your opinions! We need to better showcase our culture (caring, supportive, fun, intelligent IT industry leaders) as well as diversity. We are predominantly white still but making strides to improve here. What’s the best way to approach? I don’t want to seem disingenuous or that we are singling out our diverse employees (asking for photos). We have a remote and on-site workforce about 350+ EEs. Non white EEs make up about 35% of the company rn.

Can an employee use a Virginia Criminal Justice Agency Offender Information Form for the i9? USIC website says “The ID document listed first in List B does not have to be a driver's license - it can be any government-issued ID card, even a parolee's ID card if the date of birth, gender, height, eye color, and address are on it.” But it’s a certified FORM not ID card. I’ve been helping couples navigate the challenges of infertility for over 20 years now. Recently, I’ve noticed more couples feeling apprehensive to continue treatment because they are worried about potential repercussions if they miscarry during the IVF process. Honestly, I’m not sure how to reassure them because I also feel afraid, but I just want to continue supporting these wonderful couples & families. I would be heartbroken if they ended up suffering more because of their treatments. I’m just feeling so conflicted & sad today after meeting with a couple who decided to postpone treatment.

Does your firm consider Asian Americans to be POC for purposes of partnership promotions, etc.? I have multiple times now been purposefully staffed with other POC (non-Asian) attorneys and have been told to staff juniors who are women. I'm frustrated and don't know where to go with this.

I was recently in consideration for a promotion but got passed over. I was told , in confidence, that I viewed as less serious about the role because I teleworked while colleagues were getting back to the office. That was viewed by senior leaders as being less serious about the job.

I mean, I have a job but I feel I will never advance if I use the benefits offered. Is this the same everywhere? Do teleworking lawyers ever get promoted?
