Does you work provide summer outings for team building? Do you feel like this actually helps for bonding with your coworkers? We have a summer picnic planned for our department, which I think is kind of nice and helps make people more comfortable with each other.

My current employer doesn't do that, and it's not a big deal to me though I do kind of miss it. At a previous job we would have a company picnic and it was fun to see people in that context. I don't know if it really makes a big difference in terms of team building, but it certainly doesn't hurt any.

Yeah I guess it doesn’t hurt but wonder if there are better ways to foster team building…?

We have a spring opener outing with our local baseball team. I came from not really looking forward to ‘team building’ or work outings, but it’s actually something I look forward to every year now! We have a lot of fun and I eat an obscene amount of hot dogs and nachos. Perfect in my eyes!

A summer picnic sounds like so much fun! I always love when my company does a team bonding outing, they're so much fun and it's nice to get to know my coworkers outside of an office environment. We had a big office cookout earlier in the summer and I think they're planning an escape room night for the fall which I'm excited for!

They have like a summer event for team members but I’m remote and they don’t fly us out soo…

We have a sitewide summer picnic. This is the only celebration my company provides

I just started my job on Monday but apparently they’re having a BBQ today after our townhall so that’s pretty cool.

How do I answer the question “why are you leaving your current company”? Without shitting on my current company?

For background, my company hired me and 6 other sales people back in August 2021, I’ve had 3 different VP of Sales since then, have literally 2 customers on our product in my vertical. Marketing and product are horrible, the CMO is the CEO’s daughter and she’s only ever worked for my company.

So embarrassed. I literally had one job to do today which was to schedule a client and give and take her paperwork when she came in. Totally called her by the wrong name today AND gave her the wrong paperwork. She was really nice about it but I feel like my boss was disappointed and I'm disappointed in myself. I don't want her to think I won't be able to keep clients straight when I start doing supervised sessions.

Hi there! My boss has recently hired more people and she is not managing our new size well. She clearly cannot handle bigger teams and translates her panic into overly-controlling and suffocating structures. Team members have no voice and if they do, it’s something really minor. She talks a lot about a shared vision, reading Dare to Lead together, etc, but it comes off as shallow. How do I call her out in the most supportive way possible? I want to help and this situation is giving me anxiety.

How some people are clearing interview and then getting into a project even though they don't have any skills, no desire to learn new things, can't perform a very very simple task even though it's already documented clearly, totally burden on team members. They don't even try to do basic troubleshooting when they faced simple issues, rather asks stupid question to junior who is having only 1 years of experience and ask for solution.
I noticed this in every project I joined

I’m a 1styear, and there’s one other junior associate of color in my group.
The partner I work for keeps calling me her name. For ex: my name is “Sara” and her name is “Jasmine”. Names not similar, we don’t look alike - but I suppose we are about the same complexion. I can’t help but think it’s because we’re the only two black juniors. I was granting her grace because my mom accidentally calls me my sisters name and stuff, I get that it happens. But now it’s becoming a microagression. Advice?

DE&I is now a core leadership competency. If you are managing diverse talent, it’s important to understand what the term “privilege” means within a DE&I context so you can lead your team to higher levels of inclusivity+develop optimal strategies for solutioning around team issues/challenges. Everyone has some aspect of privilege depending upon the context. Privilege means the absence of obstacles/barriers, not necessarily the presence of perks. Though some would say *that* itself is a perk.

Hi y’all! Hope this is the right bowl to post this question and get advice. I am dealing with an employer that preaches our values. The owner states that the values are important to her etc yet my manager violates these values and is involved in unethical behavior frequently. Example 1: My manager has told specialists (resourcers) that she will pay them under the table in order for her (manager) to get full credit vs splitfor the placement and therefore (barely) hit her target for the quarter.
