i know a handful of coworkers people on work visas who are stuck in their situations because they don’t have the luxury of quitting and finding a new job
Lots of agencies do. I’ve seen agency leadership send some of these hires, not of color, to diversity panels or events when they’ve barely been in the US long enough to know up from down, and get asked about (for instance) Black Lives Matter or minority hiring problems on stage and it’s all kinds of awkward.
The diversity training is gobbledygook. Nonsense for the check list of HR compliance but to send them into an environment like that is criminal and sad.
Not exactly like that, but I’ve worked at multicultural or Hispanic market agencies, and they are mostly staffed with people from different Latin American countries (white or otherwise) who are underpaid and trapped with a temporary visa and can’t look for a job somewhere else. It’s pretty common practice.
