It does not - the majority tend to come from STEM degrees though
I think mostly not. There might be a slight preference for STEM degrees. However I know plenty of people from non-STEM backgrounds who have successfully made the transition. You should check last year’s application pages for McKinsey Insight, Bridge to BCG, and Bain ADvantage to see if they stipulate any program requirements.
If you have a bio/chem background, you are likely to be put on Pharma initially. If you have a STEM background , generally, they're more likely to put you on quant heavy cases. If you have a humanities background, like me, they'll put you wherever they feel like it :)
Strong preference for STEM PhDs (>90% of PhDs at my large office are STEM, seems similar at others). But it’s not impossible from a non-STEM background.
