vanguard automatically stops it so you won't go past 19k
Note: this usually is NOT the case if you contributed to 2 different 401ks (ie: different jobs) in the same year. Even if they're with the same financial institution.
I had to manually track against the 401k limit at Fidelity. Don't know if there was a better way.
But if you’re below, does some of the money get contributed to your 401k? I don’t want any going into it
Dammit
Check with your company payroll. For us, the bonus is a separate payroll and none goes to 401k, and there’s no way to change that. But I believe that’s a company rule, not an IRS requirement. So Deloitte may do it differently. Only way to know for sure is to ask.
It's not an IRS rule, different companies have different options for what to do with the bonus. Keep in mind the 19k limit though
With Accenture it was contributed to whatever you were already set up for. I.e. if you were contributing Roth, whatever % went to your Roth.
You get taxed on whatever is over the limit as far as I understand it.
Company rule. We have a separate bonus run where we can change allocation or whatever for just that one bonus payment.
