Most jobs pay for required licensure to perform the role. Lawyer shouldn't be different (I'm at a firm not in house but wanted to weigh in)

Yes. Most companies will only pay for one state or a set number of states if you’re licensed in multiple.

Yes. I have 2 states (2nd to become licensed where company is) and company pays both

They aren’t rich enough to cover my alcohol abuse (V20)

Yes, both. And my CLE fees.

Anyone here willing to give me a referral for a claims position, or even refer me to some jobs that you recommend. A remote position, preferably not a call center, I really love insurance and actually want to process or investigate to handle claims. I am a fully licensed producer (PA) and also have my Florida adjusters license. My current role is Complex Claims Specialist at StateFarm. (I was unable to update my job description because my company blocks this email) Thanks In Advance!!!

With less travel happening, and more people spending time wfh than office, has anyone really invested in a good home office setup? I have the extra space and want to create a productive setup. Would love to hear your advice/ input. Thanks! 🙏

My boyfriend wants kids. The only kids I want are the ones with fur and 4 legs. He loves them because he has nieces and nephews, but he doesn’t even wake up when our senior cat cries at night or throws up on the floor. I’m the one that hears it. Doesn’t make me feel hopeful that he’ll wake up when he hears a baby cry at night. He sleeps like a log.

Dual role position for a sub-specialist. It’s a very busy role that includes surgery scheduling , prior auths for surgeries and tests, referrals, returning patient calls regarding their surgeries, and to add to it, reviewing the schedules for out 2 Mds, 2 PA’s, & NP. They want everything done quickly but with also close attention to details but with absolutely no overtime. Right now I make less than I feel appropriate but it’s also more than the other clerical jobs in our corporation.

Did yall hear about the Chicago mom who had her kid taken away because she wouldn't accept that her child was transgender? As a parent, that's actually kind of scary that the government would that with no basis of abuse or neglect. Smh

Additional Posts in In-House Counsel

Do you explain the "why" as in-house or do you just give the answer? IMO the why teaches internal teams to ask "better” questions and might train them to call some of the shots.

Then again, I’m scared the "why" just comes off as soap-boxing and I’m becoming the legal windbag stereotype.

Are there any other in-house L&E attys on here? Wondering what others are doing for WFH requests for folks who claim weakened immune systems / exposure to covid as reason they need to work from home full time. (Asking legally, not what personal opinions are.) We have been following doctors’ orders if they check “required” on the medical form, but EEO staff is now asking me if they should push back because “community spread” is low. The EEOC suggests all requests be granted. Any middle ground?

Have the recent special bonuses/hot corporate lateral market made any impact on the in-house job market? I can see more biglaw lawyers sticking around due to the bonuses and/or candidates commanding more from in house employers.

Tax counsel jobs seem to be rare, compared to the more common tax senior analyst/manager/director roles. Anyone have any insight into compensation and whether companies put a premium on JDs? Looking at HCOL areas for 5-8 yrs of exp and want to understand reasonable salary bands.

I want to make more money but I don't want to be a GC. Did I have a bad experience at my last in-house jobs where the GC had no life and was beholden to the CEO? In my past jobs, the GC slaved away for the CEO.

Got a temp offer for less than a year without promise of turning into full-time. Wanted to know what ppl think about temp jobs (looks bad on resume if I don't turn full-time later within the company?) and what comp should look like (e.g. 1.2× of regular comp?).

Got another perm offer in a different industry for similar salary, but I might have to relocate and I'm concerned the work may involve translation instead of pure legal work.

Whats the difference between a GC and a lawyer that sits at the top of legal (Counsel, Legal Lead, etc.)?
Is it being an active participant in business and product development? Involvement in finances? Nothing?

Just recieved an in-house offer. No sign on bonus. Is it worth negotiating for? Also, is it unreasonable to ask for my starting date to be in one month. The current offer has me starting in three weeks. Thanks!

I have one pro bono case that I kept when I left my firm to go in house. It’s a matter completely unrelated to my company and I have malpractice insurance through the nonprofit organization associated with the case. I’ve made clear to my client that I’m repping this client in my personal capacity. No one has asked me specifically about pro bono stuff at my company - if I know there’s no conflict of interest, is this something I should disclose? To whom should I disclose this?

Anyone have insight on total comp at PayPal for Senior Legal Counsel positions. Recruiter is refusing to give me their range and wants me to state my expectations 😒

I got the job! I moved from litigation to a non litigation in-house role. I’m excited but also terrified. Any advice??? 🙏🏻

Any insights into how much an attorney at a publicly traded mining manufacturer could expect to make? About 7 yoe.

Contriversal topic but here it goes: I’m in-house a F100 and happen to be a white male (although I do have a fairly severe “invisible” disability). Progression to a management level attorney is quite difficult despite the relatively large. Recently the company announced DEI initiative that includes targets and goals for women and people of color (not applicable to other minorities). I absolutely want more diversity in our law department - I’ve taken steps to help ensure that there is - but…

Made a counteroffer a week ago and it’s been crickets ever since. Unsure whether it’s being run up the chain or whether I’m being ghosted. Companies and recruiters, why are you like this? 🚩

Finally got my new professional title approved! It took almost as long as my background check (3 weeks).

Did you negotiate when accepting offer for your company to pay for practical law or other research tools or did you ask for that later or pay for it yourself?

Hi Fish. Recently moved in-house to a newly public tech company. People are great, but the team is really understaffed. No paralegal or assistant- we are doing everything ourselves. Is this normal for in-house? Have been working close to big law hours in addition to doing all basic admin for the group. Seriously considering a return to biglaw. Am I being crazy?
