Rising Star
Somewhat strict.
Post-MBA you would come as associate, although most people make EM with 2-3 years or less, you have 4 years or so but after that it’s out.
Once you become EM you can stay “forever” as EM according to a change they implemented this year
Rising Star
1 - the change was literally implemented this year (2022), a period when we are facing an EM shortage, so it won’t be a problem in the short term. We still have to see how it plays out. In theory you can stay forever but I don’t expect to see someone stay as manager for more than 5 years
2 - yes, The person is head of the union or something like that. But I think he kept the EM title but is not really working on client facing projects, just doing some random stuff - that was the tale I heard
Certainly also depends on the county. Some labor laws in Europe make it really hard to fire people..
Also, seasoned associates and managers seem to be in crazy demand, so I would not expect too much risk there
It’s pretty strict here at BCG. 2 years and if you can’t get promoted tour out. I was surprised—even given the skilled labor shortage last year, many average performers were transitioned out.
I did hear bcg is the most aggressive of all now
Rising Star
No real up or out here, I have seen people spend 4-5 years on Manager and 7 years+ on senior manager rank. Having said that, it might be frustrating for the person not to get promoted
What makes competitors more attractive than eyp? Faster progression, better pay, not being a part of a big 4 firm and all the fun things that entails like independence, the fact people were butthurt about having their “brand ruined”
OW is not up or out at all
Second that, and we promote “your career at your pace” with flex work options and leave of absence for venturing into a startup etc and non profit stuff.. so quite less pressure unless your personal preference is to make partner before your 30s
Ow wins. Does it mean theoretically you can stay at the same level forever.
Sadly, ow doesn’t take international students...
Yes you could stay there as long as you are happy. I know plenty of people that are very happy at EM or AS and just don’t really move up because they don’t take on stretch roles.
No such policy here
LEK claims and advertises that we are not up or out, but we really are. Our timelines are just a bit looser.
I don’t think that’s true. You would just keep getting average performance scores and not get promoted. The only termination discussions I really hear are about poor performers.
It’s strict enough here. Can’t stay an associate for more than 3 years usually. Manager for like 3.5, principal for maybe 4
Another reason why I am asking this question is that some people just don’t enjoy managing people, dealing with clients or selling but only love doing analysis.
Have seen few counseled out. Especially at the SM and P level
P LEVEL? Oh
ATK doesn’t either, at least in Spain
