Have you ever received an offer from a client you were working with? Did you accept it? How was the process? How did it go? Is this common in consulting? Do the client and contracting company normally have an agreement about it? Thoughts?

I’m working at a small firm that is more like a one-stop shop. We’ve had instances where a client of ours have asked for a deliverable that is outside of our expertise and that we need specialists for. However, the relationship partner (is that what they’re called) for some reason wants everything to go through them rather than having the specialists directly engage with the client. Is there some legal/ethical reason for this? Or is this just an act to protect their turf?

Had a work-stream check in with my partner (she’s amazing) who suggested my senior and I arrange a meeting with the client to iron something out. My senior responded later thanking her for the advice and saying he’s arranged it.
