If spayed/neutered there isn't a huge difference. From person experience, boys are mellower and a little dimmer. Girls are clever/better problem solvers, but also more snuggly. Some breeds have more pronounced gender differences (we're team terrier, for reference). In general focus on energy level and personality more than gender.

I have both a male and a female. Both rescues and mixed breed. My male is a golden mix and my female is a border collie/Aussie/Brittany mix and while they both have energy he’s sweeter, more mellow and was easier to train. My female is sweet but not as affectionate (she’s more cat than dog some days) she’s always been shy towards new people and she was also spayed at only 12 weeks by the rescue and has now developed spay incontinence (poor thing pees in her sleep - not a behavior thing) which is apparently pretty common according to my vet. I love both of them but I think I’d prob lean towards male dogs in the future.

Male dogs tend to be crazier/more energy (testosterone) Good if it's going to be around small kids who love to play or a working type dog Female dogs just have calmer demeanors in general

likehelpful

I have both and my male is so much more mellow.

Male dogs do like to hump all manner of things even if they’re neutered, but other than that, all awesome

likesmart

My male dogs do not hump. At all. Pit and a Golden.

Males are more agressive and loyal. Think guard dog they'll protect you. Females are more loving, submissive, and like to cuddle. Mind you this is very broad and there are tons of exceptions. Just my opinion.

I adopted a bonded pair of dogs, one male and female, they were about 2 years old. They are both awesome, their gender doesn't really matter...I guess the girl is more territorial (barks at strangers) while the boys is more friendly... Assuming spayed/neutered no difference to me, I would pick the dog based on "personality" Adopt don't shop! Go to a shelter, don't go to a breeder

like

I’ve only had male dogs! No cons that I’m aware of?

like

I’ve rescued both male and female and notice no discernible difference due to gender. They can be great or pains in the arse regardless of gender. Maybe it’s due to people wanting to breed?

like

With male dogs the thing you want to ask is WHEN they were neutered. Male dogs who were neutered after they developed can be aggressive and territorial on average.

like

My mom has always insisted on getting female dogs because if they have an accident it’s on the floor and easier to find and clean. With a male dog it could be on the wall, on furniture, etc.

smartlike

One potential con is that if you’re a single woman, a male dog may be more territorial with a new man later down the line.

ITT: a whole lot of generalizations and correlation = causation

I have both genders and love them both. Both shelter dogs. The male is much calmer than the female, but he’s a lot older. I think their demeanor has more to do with upbringing and genetics than anything else. You can’t go wrong! I would focus on breed and age instead.

like

Just lack of education as usual. Get the dog whether boy or girl neutered or spayed and it won't matter

like

Depends on breed. I have a female yorkie and she goes nuts anytime someone walks by our house and is aggressive towards other dogs.

Same!

Both are good choices, and many of the behavior differences are lessened somewhat after spay/neuter. If you got it from a breeder and didn’t spay/neuter that would be a different story. Females tend to be smaller, so for larger breeds where their size can cause health conditions that might be a factor. Breed / mix of breeds is a much bigger factor in dog behavior and health issues. I’ve had many dogs since I was a child, and my sister has a PhD in animal behavior, and did her dissertation on dog behavior. We always had rescues so none were likely a single pure breed. My current dog is the best behaved I’ve ever had, she looks exactly like a black lab but after doing the DNA test found out she is a mix of seven breeds.

I think pets in general usually like the opposite sex more. I have a male cat and he loves me much more than my boyfriend lol

My female dog follows me around all day and runs away from my husband

Male dogs can be territorial and protective. When female dogs are in heat it is not fun.

Depends on you-personal experiences (F-owned dogs my whole life) male dogs do the alpha/not listen thing more and if you’re not going to be on charge you’re more likely to have issues. My husband and I have a male dog and despite him traveling for work most of the time he was a puppy the dog 100% bonded harder with him.

I did WFH the first 3 months after getting my male dog and trained him up. I was 4-5 days a week travel for the next 2 years. But, when I’m home, my wife basically doesn’t exist to him.

More potential for peeing in random places. Depends on the dog though!

No difference once neutered.

Something I’m struggling with as it relates to the rise of the “Karens”. I get it, Karens suck and are very real but why is it that women always have to deal with this kind of stereotype? Men, especially Trumpian white men, are just as bad about their own privilege. Maybe they handle it differently or maybe people are less inclined to record them? I don’t know. But somehow it feels like yet another divide between women. Just wish we could make it less about gender and more about privilege.

My work is highly focused on inclusion and today, while driving through the park, I felt bad for laughing at a group of larpers. They have nerf combat gear, too. I tried hard not to be insensitive to them being their true selves but i laughed … hard! And now I feel bad for laughing at them.

How would you rate your firm’s diversity and inclusion efforts? Do you feel there is a strong emphasis on promoting POC?

Were you out at work or with your family first? Would also love to hear if it was your gender or your sexuality (or both) too.

Parents are deciding between moving to WVirginia vs Virginia for retirement to be closer to us based in fairfax, va(ideally be at 1 hour driving distance). They currently in the mid west but WVirginia appeals to them because of low taxes, low cost of living. We are also poc so appreciate some diversity. What are some areas you would recommend both in Va and WV? What else should they consider prior to house hunting? Dad likes to garden/farm as well so looking for homes with large backyards. Tia!

Transitioned into consulting post-MBA (1.5 years ago) and generally enjoyed the experience. Since I joined my comp has gone up ~13% and I’ve liked my project teams but in my most recent review talk my partner told me he thought I was ready to be promoted and had advocated for me but there was an HR rule against it and I was on-track to be promoted in 6 months. Since then I’ve learned that one of my classmates (started 2-3 months before me due to COVID) was promoted last cycle.

I need recommendations for nice maternity work pants. My office is WFH but I occasionally need to go in. I’m 16 weeks (first pregnancy) and today realized in a panic when I attempted to get dressed that my work pants are either too tight in the waist to wear or getting there. I’m tall (5’10”) and usually wear Theory, Rag and Bone or J. Crew work pants. Any suggestions for nice black maternity pants that I could pair with a blouse or blazer? Thx!!
