Doing my onboarding with EY today. I was just told EY doesn’t provide work phones? Is this actually true lol

Making a bigger deal than it is. I use my phone to call my team via teams. Problem solve. If you aren’t in teams then you don’t get a phone call. No need to give your phone number out. You would think new hires would understand technology a little better. Don’t want teams on your phone? Then don’t and just call them from your computer when you are online. I really don’t see how this is an issue.

Do you have clients that need to call you?

Not gonna lie, a dedicated business phone for me is a turn off. Both at KPMG and EY we used the personal. I get the points on it breaching personal life.. but I have enough stuff to worry about where two phones just seems like a pain. I’ll take the monthly reimbursement option and I’m good

Welcome! When in doubt, just assume EY is at least 30 years behind the times technology wise. At worst your expectations will be met. At best they’ll be slightly exceeded.

I agree on the internal apps, but I’d say having a separate business phone is old school and not a good example.

I don't want an EY cell phone. I like it the way we have it where they reimburse us, but I do wish it was a larger reimbursement.

This is wild. Just data at pwc most people were over $60, but we received free iPhones/upgrades. Guess I shouldn’t have assumed

T-mobile! Know what you are going to say, wasn’t a fan in the 4G era, but their 5G network is great!

They used to reimburse $75 for staff/senior and 100+ for managers and up. But I’m oke with 60 if they give me 30%+ raise this yr and 10%+ pbb

likefunnysmart

And data plan costs have gone down too. So if your net cost didn’t change …..

Why do you need a work phone?

likefunny

Haha EY 16, never met a single soul in my office thanks to the pandemic so yeah there’s that. I don’t need more communication than teams at the moment it is more than enough

As a former PwCer the “better firm” is determined by multiple factors. While I was at PwC I did well and got great reviews, but I hated the work I was doing and the long hours and constant busy season burned me out after a 1.5 years. I ended up switching to EY and I’m in a much better place now. Were there things that took a bit of time to get used to, yes. Are there things that I don’t like about the firm and my job, yes, but no firm and job is perfect. That being said I’m way happier at EY than I was at PwC. Everyone is different and I encourage everyone who isn’t happy with their current big 4 to consider trying another one out, it might make a difference.

As others said, they'll pay part of the bill. I prefer to own my own phone and only have one, so no big deal for me.

I hated having two phones. I much prefer having my own phone and getting reimbursed for that, even if it doesn’t cover the full amount.

When I was at pwc, I kept a separate phone and got calls, texts and emails all hours of the night and day, any day of the week, even on vacation, and I hated it. 5+ years at EY with one phone. Email notifications are turned off on my phone, phone calls are so rare the $60 feels frivolous and no one from work is hounding me during normal off hours or vacation. Hopefully you’ll have better respect for your personal life and boundaries, too.

Yes. Welcome. You must be from PwC.

So your laptop through Teams has your work phone and functions like a phone Take your calls there if you’re insistent on not using your personal cell phone for work matters AND not getting an additional line with the $60/mo you may receive for such activities…………

Can’t expense phone equipment. But.. our bring your own device policy allows you to manage this however you want. You can buy a cheap 2nd phone and $60 will cover unlimited data on a 2nd line even if you don’t have other family members. If you do it could be as low as $45. So your choice - have 1 phone or have 2. If you have 1 we pay for most of the cost. If you choose to have a separate work phone we are covering about all the month fees (not equipment).

Lots of post about kids so I’ll offer one that’s been on my mind. Why more than one kid? I grew up with a sibling. She is my best best friend but as I’ve gotten older realized we were more of the exception. Lucky that we are same gender (which I do think impacts closeness), that we are close in age, and just clicked like bffs. Have since met so many sibs with non existent and toxic relationships. More kids = more expense. After passing on genes and getting love of a child, why have more than one
