My advice: the next project you get is very likely to also be dead boring shit but the people might not be as great. In my years at the firm I've found it best to stick with people I like no matter how boring I find the work. If you like your team, then stick to them because solid coworkers/teams can still make a dead project fun. My counselor has advised me to roll off twice now, and each time i ignored her advice and saved myself from a disaster "next project" so your counselor doesn't always know what is best for you.

Don't listen to the SM. You might be put on some really boring next project, but networking and proving to new people that you are competent will help you further down the line. The SM isn't going to loyal to you if there are budget cuts down the line, so do yourself a favor and have a big network.

Ha, pull you up where, to staff 2, great thanks, most likely doesn't even know your name

I just don't want to upset either. 😕

You have to remember SMs and partners have been around a long time and think in different timescales than you. And they also want to keep good resources in place. I've been screwed at ACN hanging onto these promises that always go unfulfilled. Listen to your CC, be selfish.

EY 1 if this is who I think it is... Lolz

Wish I could empathize but I'm also Staff1 and can't find any work at all 😔

I don't know about your firm, but this what I do if I was in your shoes. Talk to your counsellor frankly about your concerns. The SM might be promising bc he/she may not find someone else who will do "dead boring shit". Your counsellor is your guide and advisor. Find out from the counsellor if there is a nice way to roll off w/o pissing off the SM, unless you are going to do this work for a short time. Lack of alignment to your goals sounds good to me.

^also, try to find other work first if that is possible, so you don't end up like EY1 (btw, sorry EY1, hope it changes for you soon). Good luck all.

I hope your SM pulls you up but they're likely going to pull you on any project they have, boring or not. In my experience, it's good to work for a variety of people so you don't get too familiar with one work style and expand your network. I would look for another project and trust what your counselor says. SMs that want to make partner can be selfish and want you to stick around for their own agenda, not your development. But maybe I'm just thinking about one SM in particular ... 🤔

Need advice for resigning while on bench. I already have a start date with the new employer. Should I do a traditional two week notice or give <=1 week notice instead? My goal is to not burn bridges, but I also don’t want to get let go on the spot since I have nothing to “wrap up” besides HR tasks. I’ve read on here that sometimes they will let you go day of and pay you out for two weeks but I don’t see why any firm would do that for somebody not currently performing billable work...
