It's definitely something that we should all evaluate. My goal is to be working a job with better WLB by my mid/early 30s so that I can be around my family more. Paid off our student loans, aiming to finish our car off and then crack at the housr more.
I am 65 and retiring in 2 weeks. Have saved all my life and will probably leave some money to my kids. Workers used to have good pensions and did not have to worry about managing a 401k. I have friends who were too conservative with 401k and will probably end up working to 70 or 75. My advice to young people is start planning for retirement early.
Thanks. Thank your son. I like Fort Hood. It is a huge base with lots of firepower. Military is complicated with a lot of moving parts. We have the best fighting force in the world.
Baby boomers! Hogging the jobs, housing, social security, Medicare, and environment from the rest of us. “F*ck you kids I’ve got mine.” Is the boomer motto.
Cartoon might be silly but the message is true. I have friends that took what we would consider “the easy road” and have an overall greater life satisfaction because they have more time for family/friends/hobbies/personal care and are not perpetually spazzed about work.
When you grow up poor and realize that money is so important, I’m cool with being the old guy in this picture. I’ll pass down the money to my kids (who I aspire to raise correctly) and create a chain of wealth. Sad but it is what it is
Probably unpopular opinion: I don’t see anything wrong with this, as long as this isn’t the *ONLY* thing you chase. As long as we live in a capitalistic society, we need money. 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
I agree. I’ve definitely been poor and lived paycheck to paycheck and to me, money allows me freedom. Freedom to live where I choose, travel, invest, donate to causes I care about, and have live experiences that may not be possible otherwise.
I definitely need to do better with work life balance but if money is one of the things that motivates you, go for it.
We all have a burn out level. For some it is 50 hrs a week. For some it is 100 hrs a week. When you are there no amount of money is gonna make you happy. Just make sure you are not at your burn out level.
Why not be this guy? To save money for kids, future health problems when hospital bills run wild. You are this guy if you are working. Weird thing this post may hit chord because of compensation season. Lol

Deciding when you have got enough and stop the chase is no simple matter

Likewise haha
Makes me sad about how true this is
It’s not too late to change

Same as C1
It kinda sucks cuz I feel this is most of us, and we kind of realize it, but we’re stuck and likely won’t change cuz we’re comfortable
Think it might be a comfort vs happiness type thing/ feeling like we should be doing something more meaningful. Idk for me anyway

Unless your in poverty I don’t think money can buy happiness. I think happiness is ultimately defined by self fulfillment, relationships, and love.
Live well below your means
I can buy a glider if I get enough money early on

Sums it up:
Take Life Insurance (not term) and you can let your kid not worry when he is 40-50, assuming you are no more. They inherit

Except “this guy” has a mortgage and goals
Sounds like it’s a mortgage for something you want, not what you need
Good point i should have stayed poor
Lol no choice.
