Oh lordie you’re trying so hard to be offended
I’m sorry, I’m black and come on. This was just a funny ad. I read it as poking fun of people who wear it (which, fyi: my dad owns a shit ton of those fleeces). If anything we can agree it was written by a STRAIGHT (TM), cause what gay is gonna wear something that ugly? 🤣🤷🏾♂️
To be fair the app is pretty much for that type so I'd say they're pretty on point.
wtf’s a quarter zip fleece
Can we go back to fighting about whether or not the Mayo was inappropriately touching the sandwiches?
The only thing that bothers me about this is that OP attempts to call this ad racist while being prejudiced in the very same post....
I mean. Is that the demo of that neighborhood? I’m sure there’s other copy in other places
Just googled it. The first three people I can think of that wear these are a white dude, a black dude, and an asian dude. This is in Canada so I guess climate plays a role in it.
Fleece
Have you never, ever seen any non-white person wearing a fleece? Literally college students of all races wear fleeces.
Eh, they know their audience. And just so happen to be it, as well
Anyone wearing a quarter-zip fleece doesn't have impeccable taste.
I have no idea what that pic is even about
Slow down with the outrage
Seems like OP’s abandoned this post but I’m so frustrated and discouraged that they clearly have no idea what a target audience is. Obviously they’d never put this ad in Harlem. They’d also never put the Harlem ad on the Upper East Side. Every brand does the same thing with subway ads versus ads on a wedding website. Why would you ever use the same copy to reach extremely different demographics?!
Senior Creative 1, that is exactly the problem and why you’re an asshat. Instead of being so easily offended by posts about (straight) white men, maybe take a step back and see why those posts are being made.
It IS just a skin pigment. But that is NOT how society works even if we would all LOVE it too.
White people under the poverty line do have a lot of privilege. When you see a single black person with dreads and moping about homeless a lot of peoples first thoughts are “ugh, black people are such thugs.” And when you see the same whites person it’s “Ugh, gross. Look away.” And it’s subtle but one still takes an entire race and makes a judgment and one is individual. That in itself a privilege. No white person has to prove themselves at every corner. Not that they NEVER have to prove themselves, but I can guarantee it’s a lot less.
So yes, even in poverty white people tend to have more resources and get more help than minorities. Talk to social workers. It’s a huge problem they even admit it. My white social worker friends always talk about how some of their coworkers work harder to help the white people find homes rather than the minorities. It’s a thing.
Instead of being so offended just because you might not PERSONALLY oppress, take a step back and look around at things. Or idk. Read an article or a book or something every once in a while. It might help your ignorance.
White men aren’t the scum of the earth. But white men who pretend they don’t operate from a position of power and that society isn’t 100% favored toward them are.
Who cares if it's targeted at white people? We have entire agencies who specialize in targeting black and Hispanic people
"I have a dream that my four artisanal candlemakers will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their rooftop harvested bee’s wax but by the length of the zipper on their of their fleece.”
SC1 can you also tell them that they’re poor because of the policies determined mostly by privileged white men and not because minorities are taking their jobs and spending all their tax money. Thanks
SC1: “some kind of master race hell bent on oppression..” I’m not sure why you wrote this as if it were a hyperbolic statement. Like this very thing wasn’t very real in America not 60 some odd years ago, never mind the rest of the world...
