Don’t really see the purpose of FIRE unless my passive is like $300K+ a year - enough for me to travel around and try new things on daily/weekly/monthly basis. Time with no money can be quite boring

Imagine needing $300k/year to live the lifestyle you want

I dunno, it's a decade+ before I have to make that decision. I'd love to work part time or do long-term volunteer projects (like be a campground host for a summer season), but we'll see, maybe when I get to the point of having 100k passive income I'll think retirement sounds boring

For me, I loathe corporate working. FIRE enables me to not work a soul crushing job. I have traveled and eaten at expensive restaurants, but I'd rather spend my time hiking and camping, hunting, spending time with my nieces, learning how to work with my hands. Different strokes for different folks.

I think it mainly comes down to this The ones that are all bout nature and the ones that I hate it. Personally I am the latter, so it becomes harder to find things to spend my time doing

like

Are you spending 300k+ now to do those things

I don't get the purpose because to quote Daniel Plainview when offered a million dollars for his oil interests: "What would I do with myself?". If I made $20m tomorrow I wouldn't quit my job, I like it, I like having a job I enjoy, and I like working with good people. I spent some time unemployed and I hated it, and if I was independently wealthy I would hate it just a little less. Plus I got sober a year and a half ago and now it's like I am living my life for real and want more obligations, not less.

like

Yea the key here is having a job you enjoy. Everyone would continue doing what they enjoy. The point of FIRE is to have time to pursue those things instead of working, if you get paid for it even better, if it aligns with what you’re doing presently, best

What’s FIRE?

Thanks

300k/year is a lot, most people never have that income. I get your base idea that you want a “lot of money for retirement”, and I agree some, believe that is called fatFIRE

Actuly think that is a decent number and I agree..

Also probably some financial products that can get yiu roughly 8-10 percebt annualized return, on a mil that 1/3 of the way there.
