Don't want to get pigeon held in tax, is it likely to get a finance position coming out as a tax senior?

Only if you did hedge fund, private equity, mutual fund work. I've seen the jump to those firms and you work on the finance of the deals. Best path I've seen is transfer to m&a as a first year senior, stay until manager, and then make the jump. One of my managers went from low $100k to $250k but he's something else.
