It would help to talk to someone professionally after this kind of life event. Mean this in all seriousness. Good news is that it could be your greatest life lesson and opportunity to step up to turn this around. It won’t be easy, and if you’re serious about reflecting, you can use this to your advantage and overcome this seemingly incredulous mistake. Key is that it was a mistake that needs to be fleshed out and addressed now.

OP - please go see a therapist asap. Don’t do anything stupid to hurt yourself either. I’m in your same shoes, I realized a huge investment loss a couple months ago so I was in a dark place. But therapy helped a lot. Give it 2 months of therapy and you’ll get back to functional, trust me.

Down like 15%, what on earth are y’all doing that puts you down 70-90%? ‘Stonks’ don’t only go up and the money printer doesn’t only go brrr 🤷🏻‍♂️ diamond hands tho!

Don't worry OP, Deloitte's 5% AIP should help recoup some losses

Big tech-focused funds being forced to liquidate. Absolutely brutal.

I am about to buy the dip for the first time.

Bottom ain’t in just yet #timestamp

Not to kick you while you’re down, but perhaps listening the the garbage advice from people on FB who seem to think tech goes up in perpetuity was a bad idea.

The number of times I got called stupid for not overweighting tech…

I feel you, down 90% myself…. I stopped looking.

@D7 I don’t think this works how you think it does

I’m down like 15%. You all were not diversified at all huh?

Stop looking for the next 6 months.

Assuming no real flattening of the market I won’t look again until I’m investing my EOY bonus

Are these your personal accounts or your 401ks? Because 80-90% down is wild for a 401k to be down already

Lot of people coming back to work now haha

We’ve been trained to think like the salary class, which yearns to be the stock ownership class.

For $700k, you could have bought enough assets to never work again

like

Yeah I guess I’m thinking “live comfortably” since Deloitte spoke in context of being compared to the stock class. If you forgo a retirement and buy two cheap places—one to live in and one to rent—and then receive subsidies then you can definitely live. Hell, people live off unemployment, but I assumed there was something I’m missing here because that logic renders the original comment meaningless.

Either way, I think you’re right

I’m down 200k :( lol

My financial advisor said to view it not as losing money but buying on the cheap. He said I should be upset that I was purchasing when the market was hot. This is in regards to my 401k

like

Need to look at your diversification. Big tech giveth and big tech taketh away

How old are you? Ride it out?

The fact that at 30 you had enough saved to be down 700k is impressive in itself. It's not the end ot the world at all for you.. I'd brush it off and leave the portfolio alone a few yrs
