Dropping the night feeding - my baby is three months and appears to be willing to sleep through the night. Being clueless on how this might impact my supply, I have been essentially doing a “dream feed” at 4am. Has anyone had a bad experience with supply or getting their period back after sleeping through the night?

Yay that’s exciting your baby is starting to sleep thru the night! Honestly I would take advantage of that, your body will adjust to the amount of milk your baby needs. I did get my period back after that happened though. Instead of the dream feed, you could always pump at 4am and save the milk :)

That’s a good idea and I like combining it with a morning workout. Right now I am on leave but that might be a great back to work routine.

Milk supply regulates around 12 weeks so you should be fine! Mine did at 8 (I exclusively pump and track it). It may take a few days but the body will adjust. Get your sleep!

Straight sleep sounds so nice!

No period yet (been about 2-3 weeks now after dropping the night feed) but I am getting up at 5:30am to pump.

I like 530 am better than 4!

Yay for more sleep for mom! I think as long as you’re being responsive to when your baby is hungry, you’re doing great. I also wouldn’t expect that baby will always be able to sleep through the night now. Just FYI that the middle of the night feed may return! As they grow and make more cognitive developments, it often impacts their sleep. My daughter slept through the night around 3 months but then at 4 and 6 months things got rocky for a little and the midnight feed returned... although at that point it may not have been because she was hungry but it did soothe her back to sleep. FWIW She is now a 2 yo and I didn’t follow half the published advice on breastfeeding and sleep training and yet she is still an awesome sleeper! Follow your gut 😍♥️

Yeah I was afraid to even post this and jinx myself! I figure things will change again and your guidance of “take advantage now” sounds wise.

I never pumped in the middle of the night. My daughter slept 12 hours starting at 8 weeks, but did reintroduce a night feed around 5 months that stuck around for a little while until I forced her to drop it. I got my period back at 4 months pp and exclusively BF (still am bf’ing at 18 months). If you want to keep building up a big stash, an extra pump session (middle of the night) will help with that. Your body makes the most milk in the early AM hours, so that’s a prime time to do it. I never did, though because I found my supply during the day was better when I got good sleep.

Interesting point about getting good sleep and the impact on supply. Thank you for sharing.

I found out today that my employer doesn’t offer any paid parental leave (maternity or paternity). This isn’t a major issue now, but my wife and I are planning on trying in a year or so from now. How many other employers don’t offer any paid leave at all? Coming from public accounting this seemed outrageous to me, but curious to see what other companies are like.

First kid moving to kindergarten. So confused about schools (first generation immigrant here). Please help a fellow fish out: 1. Where do I find the schools ratings? It’s confusing online 2. Does it matter between 7/10 vs 6/10 schools? 3. What’s the advantage of a better rated school? If it’s just rating wouldn’t it change every year?

Hi all! I’m doing some research on parental leave policies to make a case to improve ours. How many weeks does your policy offer? Does it differ between “primary” and “secondary” caregiver? Birth vs other means of growing your family? I’m particularly interested in independent shops, but would love to hear from folks at the network agencies as well. It you could comment with your agency name, I’d be super grateful. Thank you thank you! ❤️

Now that my school is completely in-person, I’m noticing that the students who were online last year are pushing back on everything we do in school. Following the most basic of rules, directions, or fun is a struggle. I teach 8th grade, but I coach in the high school. I’m seeing it across the board. Is anyone else seeing this too? Is your school or district addressing it with any preventative measures social-emotional supports?

Is it typical to have to return to a new project after taking parental leave?

Do any other firms have a policy that requires you to return to work for a certain period after paid parental leave, and if you choose to leave you are required to pay it back? If so, is there anyone who decided to leave before the end of that period? What happens if you can’t afford to pay it back?

Wife and kid are going to be out of town for the next 2 weeks. Instead of wasting time, I’d like to do something productive. What would you do if you have say 3+ hours a day. Maybe self help, wealth creation type books, work out daily, take care of some things around the house.

Deloitte: I see there is an HR policy that allows you to go 60-80% whenever you want to/in any role so long as there is a business case. Does this ever happen in consulting? Is it more likely to be approved in certain groups/with certain skills? I’m thinking it might be feasible to stay here if I could could go on a reduced schedule after baby 2. If that’s something I could work towards and prepare for in the year or so prior, I’d like to set myself up well for it! Any insight is appreciated!
