If only those degrees meant anything in the path to partner..
CPA
It's not obvious. Some states you need that 5th year to satisfy the educational requirements. You were asking about a MST, leads to believe you don't have that 5th year. So not obvious.
I’m not a tax guy - but doesn’t the JD mean something actually in that realm?
Not really.
Those degrees won’t help you if you want to stay in PA. selling work, client relationship, project management, tax technical are what people care about. Going to law school will just put you 3-4 years behind and you will have a mountain of debt to pay off. If you go to law school, go to work at a law firm, if you are an accountant, work for an accounting firm.
You are a senior which means you are in PA for few years. If you think and know you are on partner track, I would say put extra effort and focus on work. Since you are CPA, these additional degree would not give you any leverage on your path to partnership. If you really really want to go back to school JD is the only thing I would recommend. The treason is that JD would enhance your earning potential if you leave the firm or go to a specialty group. If it is me, I would not waste time on these. Another idea would be to invest time in learning Alteryx, or other technical language which will help you in your career.
