Yaaaaaaasssssssss. Thank you!!! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽. So annoying, uncomfortable, inefficient.
No, it's not annoying. Enjoy etiquette instead of bitching about something so minor. I really appreciate it and think it's "romantic" to have manners. You can hold the door for me too anytime, fellas
It's usually Euro and Latino guys who do all these things. I think American men have ptsd from posts and comments like the above and have abandoned trying for fear of being 'yelled' at
Blame our moms who smacked us if we didn't.
Because I'm polite, woman.
Old fashioned chivalry is annoying AF
Men, put your chivalry down for equal pay. Don't care if you let me out the elevator first, or does nothing for us.
Where has this post been all my life!? ...So confusing every time.
Because we are unable to mindread which action will annoy you. What would you recommend we do, ask every time "Hey woman I've never met, will you get offended if I step out first, or get annoyed if I don't?"
I let everyone out first. I wait for everyone's meal to arrive before I eat. I get the door for people too. It is common decency and proper manners. I feel like if the opposite happened you would complain too.
It's called Chivalry.
Efficiently exiting an elevator. How romantic. Were you the first wave of babies raised by Alexa or what?
It's actually polite. Jesus people are hard to please these days.
I'll make sure to be extra rude next time. I hate being chivalrous, anyway.
That's kinda true. Being a Latino guy, I just can't help myself. :/
No one is yelling...it's simply inefficient. If you are exiting as well and you are closer to the door, just exist first. Not losing sleep over it. Fellow woman, I can also think something is annoying and you can disagree. So 🤗
Real reason... speaking for myself, I like watching you walk away.
Sorry that I'm not looking for romance from a stranger in an elevator?????
SAM2, lol, I was going to give the car door example too as something I really like. It's called manners. Respect. Feeling polite and civilized. I would never think anything less of a guy who exists elevator first because he's closer to the door, especially in a crowded elevator where the whole elevator spacing and etiquette gets super tricky. But, I enjoy and don't get upset if they do let me get off first when that happens, too.
I don't know about others here, but If I personally owned an agency I would absolutely eliminate the wage gap. Sadly I don't, and I'm not sure if the CFOs of WPP, Publicist, IPG or any other holding companies or agencies drop in all that often. I only say this because whether you call it chivalry or manners, most of us can't do much about the 85 cents on the dollar... yet.
Back to the original question: little boys are taught very early on (mostly by women) to show deference to to the opposite sex. Maybe it's a holdover from a bygone era that's outlived it's welcome, but please know that for most of us it's meant as a gesture of good will and politeness. No offense is intended and please accept our humble apologies if we do offend - we were literally raised this way.
I'm a lady and I do it, too. It's probably Southern courtesy in my case... it is just automatic to be all "after you, sir, good day ya'll" 😜
