Line up a baby nurse! Now is a good time to solicit recommendations and interview them. I am a first time mom due in March, have a husband who doesn’t get much PTO, and don’t expect family support (they’re out of state). So we are throwing 💰 at this problem.

Oh!! Thanks for the clarification. Good to know.
Depending on where you’re at financially - throwing money 💰 will definitely solve many headaches. At the minimum, you can hire a nanny/cook that comes in to help for few hours a day to help with cooking, prepping, get an extra hand to watch after the baby to free up some time. I’m also a ftm and planning to freeze food in advanced and hiring someone to come in a few hours everyday for 5 days a week. I’m foreign, and my country has banned international family/tourist trip, because - COVID, so my mum can’t leave the country to help me. 😔
Not sure where you’re located, which might affect the resources available for hire... My fiancé is a contractor and doesn’t get any PTO but might take unpaid leave for the first month. We can do this, mama! 💪🏻

That must hurt! Having family is so important. My mum is still recovering from a long illness and my dad is pretty much her caregiver so even though my mum insists on flying in from Europe (her mental strength is amazing), I won't let it happen. Too much risk for mum and baby! I am trying desperately to find a cook, and its been an uphill task. Not giving up....
Echo what everyone said about baby nurse/ night nanny. But I would also strongly encourage your spouse to take additional 2 weeks from their vacation time or other leave if possible. Launch or no launch, this time will never come back.
On freezing things: make things in ready portion sizes before you freeze them. If you have to defrost a huge container, it won’t happen.
Tactically, hand pies. Make any saucy protein you like, then bake in pie crust (get empanada dough or savory pie dough from the grocery store). It freezes beautifully, and reheating takes like 15-20min. My sister came out for both my kids and cooked non-stop for 2-3 days and left us with a freezer full of hand pies. It was amazing.
Also, if you’re a baker, make cookie dough, make dough balls and freeze. Then you can make 2-4 cookies in 14min flat when you really need fresh cookies as a pick me up 😋. Also works for lactation cookies.

Is this baby #1? Not trying to downplay how hard it is, but I don’t think you need to overwhelm yourself trying to find tons of help. My husband only had 2 weeks, too. I didn’t have much family help either, but it was okay! A mother’s helper would be lovely so you can get a bit of alone time, take a shower and a nap. But if you can’t find someone, it will be okay!!

I agree! My husband stayed home for 2 weeks and by then we had things down pretty well & there wasnt much to do for two ppl to be home all the time. He did do a ton once home from work though.
I gave birth peak pandemic and couldn’t have help around- it was OK! You’ll be OK whatever you decide!
Recipe suggestions for the freezer:
1. Pierogies
2. Gyoza Dumplings 🥟
3. Meatballs
4. Pasta sauce
5. Curries are great! I put them in a slow cooker bag and right in the pot. If there’s coconut milk, just have that separately and add it day of. Otherwise it separates.
Dump in slow cooker recipes.
1. Salsa chicken- LIFE SAVING recipe!!!! Add chicken breasts, red or green salsa and cook on low for ~4 hours. Dude. Amazing. Use for burrito bowls or in tacos. Best recipe ever.
2. Chili
3. Pulled pork
4. Teriyaki chicken thighs

Recipes:
- Lasagna
- Mac and cheese
- Enchiladas
- Chili/any soup
- Burritos (individually)
- Curries
- Smoothies (freeze portions of pre-cut fruit/seeds/veggies, then add fresh yogurt/milk when needed)
- Meatloaf (freeze raw mixture, pressed flat in a large plastic bag, will thaw quicker and then bake like normal) and mashed potatoes (boil and mash without adding milk or butter. Defrost and then add milk/butter to get the consistency you want)
- Slow cooker recipes in bag (if a recipe calls for four chicken breasts, various vegetables, and seasoning, put all that minus any water or liquid in a bag and freeze. Dump the frozen bag in the slow cooker, add any necessary water/liquid, and add a few extra hours cooking time. You’ll be around the house, so just check it periodically.)
When making the meals, freeze either in individual or half recipe containers, which is great if you can make the normal recipe once but the freeze as two or more separate meals.
Anything you’d like to freeze but aren’t sure of, when you make it now, freeze a portion and then defrost it the next day. See how it turns out. You can also experiment with freezing pre-cut/portioned raw ingredients that you then defrost and cook. Even with no specific purpose, it can be great to have pre-cut chicken breasts, pre-formed burgers, pre-chopped veggies for curries, etc. all in the freezer that you can defrost and use so you don’t have to go to the store.
Make a “menu” for the two months after baby is born. It can be as simple as, lasagna on Mondays, taco Tuesdays, etc. Or you can just write out your favorite recipes and then repeat those in order. But it does make a huge difference just not even having to *decide* what’s for dinner!
Have a selection of takeout of menus that deliver!
