Hey man. I work in IB and can relate. Just wanted to let you know that a lot of us here are rooting for you and ill be praying for you tn! Hang in there king. Head up!
It certainly can’t hurt to try, especially if the way you’re feeling is work related. Sometimes even a couple days unplugging have made a huge difference for me when I’m in a bad spot.
Sorry to hear you’re having a tough time
I think you might need to reconsider IB in general. It's not for the faint of heart and it's also not a hill worth dying on (figuratively speaking).
Totally a valid possibility M1 and appreciate you putting that out there! But unfortunately I do know work doesn't create my stress unless I hate my job (I don't), but when I'm already not doing well, it does add on (been in other very relaxed culture roles as well, like tech!)
Take a three-day weekend. Make a valid sounding excuse for it. It will do you some good.
Thank you all, I appreciate the encouraging comments, I will go ahead and take a couple days off 😊 I sometimes find myself not knowing what is or isn't normal/reasonable since I don't really have friends in the industry, so I get into a spiral of self-doubt and such a lot
I was coming on here to say do it! I disconnected for a few days (literally just went 0 internet) and it was the best thing ever. Super refreshing
I am so sorry to hear this. Have you thought about/do you see a therapist? Therapy has been something that has really helped me.
I was trying to but took a pause when covid hit since I wasn't having luck finding a good one. I was thinking about resuming the search when I get the chance though :)
Definitely take some time off. No one will ever hold it against you. I’m a VP in IB and people take off randomly all the time, it doesn’t matter what time of the year it is.
Do it! I felt similarly though for me I did end up realizing IB was not for me… if you like it and you’re good at it, that’s one thing, but bankers have enough opportunities open for them that if you don’t like it and/or you’re not good at it (i.e., detail oriented/observant AND fast) it’s worth looking into other options too. In the long run, you may be more successful by paying attention to how you are most valuable too
What did you decide to pivot too, if you don’t mind my asking.
