If the recruiter is in-house, probably. If the recruiter is external, I think they have some vested interest to bump you higher because their commissions could be a % of your salary.
Also, some firms have to adhere to salary bands for a role.
Generally most agencies have salary ranges but since you’ve already offered your cards at a lower rate than their range, they may end up offering you at their lowest within the range vs in the middle, etc.
Either way, you should always do your research on the general range the title pays vs what you think you’d want.
Perfect example is that your current employer might be under paying you and to you a 10-15% jump from current pay would be great but in reality the next role could and should be paying you 25-30% of what you’re currently making but you might sell yourself short by only asking for 15% above what you’re currently making.
I always have Glassdoor salary range up on the title and company I’m interviewing for, and I always say the higher end but that depending on budget I’m flexible with other offerings/benefits. It typically works.
I think you still definitely have room to negotiate and they’ll expect you to!
They will still probably offer the lower end of whatever their range. You can always say antihero firm reached out to you at whatever the middle of the range is.
