100% agree. It’s hard to do in depth analysis without your undivided attention - a luxury you don’t usually have at the client site during the day. Good news is, you won’t be an analyst forever!
Anyone else experience something similar? I’m 1 year into consulting and know this isn’t sustainable health wise.
Find a different floor / room to hide out in so that you can crunch your model
Yeah, and see if there’s any flex in travel schedules or hours on site. Can you take a Monday PM flight and crank on mondays in home office? Or have one day a week where you only spend half day on site?
Thanks everyone! There’s always been a general expectation that everyone on the team works out of the same conference room. But hearing that so many others have this issue makes me think I should be (politely) unapologetic about carving out some alone time during the day
Book meetings with yourself and go hide! We all do it.
Absolutely support what many are saying- advocate for what helps you be most effective and intelligent: if you have a solid reason (as it sounds like you do), only a foolish project manager would deny you the chance to achieve your best work during the workday. I’ve always found that asking for what makes me successful is the only way I can get others on a team to understand my ways of working- boundaries won’t be respected unless you make them known. You got this! 😎
I don’t get anything done in office other than pep talk. Most of my critical thinking happens either after hours or on working remote day
Interruptions. Why I love working remote
If there are other meetings/conversations happening in your conference room that aren’t pertinent to you definitely take the time to go find a quiet table or chair nearby. If anyone asks obviously you’re still being productive but you think better with a little change of scenery.
I’m 100% the same. Can’t focus in open floor plans. Too many distractions and stress from people constantly trying to talk to you
I'm most productive at home where I can hook up my laptop to my 34 inch ultrawide monitor.
Yeah even if someone is a little anxious and doesn’t like flexing on having you close - just get them to try it your way once and overdeliver and they’ll see the model works better :)
