I saw a flyer in a New Jersey Gurudwara last year around August 15. It said ‘August 15th is India’s independence day, not ours. Support Khalistan and never forget 1984
Wah SM2 - these famous words are of Lt Gen Ranjit Singh Dayal’s mother, when he being a Sikh, was asked to lead a column in Blue Star.

Spent a bunch of time in Punjab and don’t know of Sikhs who support Khalistan movement. Came across some British accented folks in London who were protesting for Khalistan along with Mirpuris 😀

Tons in Canada. About 20 years ago an MP of Indian origin who supported the Indian govt was beaten in public by Khalistani activists.
Some of our current Sikh MPs (born and raised in Canada) are outspoken on the issue and were even denied visas to visit India, which I think makes them angrier. The largest gurdwara in the GTA still has a huge poster facing the road saying “we will never forget 1984”.

Exactly! I agree that 1984 was a terrible tragedy for their community. But consistently giving a one sided narrative doesn’t help their cause. P

I’ve met people who raised questions about actions of Indira Gandhi, which is completely fine. So those who remember the deaths.
Don’t think I’ve met an active member of the separatist movement or it’s foreign backed and funded terror campaign. Probably will have to re-evaluate the company I keep , if I do

They are very active in Canada. Last year
they banned any official from Indian Embassy to come to the Gurudwaras.
In Canada, pretty much all Punjabis identify themselves as Sikh more than Indian

Well they will soon be Canadians
Lots of them in Canada and Detroit. They hate India and Indira Gandhi.
Because most of the supporters got asylum after 1984 to settle in US and Canada. Many gurudwaras were built through funding raised by these folks and have photos of Bhindrawala in them.
They are. The easiest way to see them is during Indian PM’s UNGA speech. I have been watching them protesting for not less than 7-8 years. They were protesting when Dr Singh was PM and even now.
Another location is during any Indian big leader program, they protest outside venue. I remember Modi events in NY, SFO and Houston and Rahul Gandhi’s event in NYC.
There is a car in NJ, which has “Khalistan” as a number plate.
