Early in my career and in consulting for only 6 months. Would it be bad to take a big tech offer already? The tech role is the same role I would want to exit to eventually anyways

Nope. Do it.

Big tech offer all the way. Don’t waste time in consulting you will regret it later.

Can confirm. Make the move.

You have a lot to gain if you stick with your current role. You’ll also be in a better place to exit in a few years once you have a few years of consulting experience. I went straight to industry out of college, where promotion paths are more limited then consulting. Learning consulting and presenting skills will position you for a way better exit opportunity then leaving 6 months in. Stay for at least a few years and get some good experience, because you won’t find that kind of challenge in industry.

If it's the right role at the right company, why would you not?

Coming from the tech industry, what’s the role? I’ll be able to advise as certain roles even within a good tech company just aren’t worth it. Also, what’s the 5 year plan? Do you want to do an MBA eventually?

like

VP, I’m interested in tech but worried about the ceiling. Can you give some idea of the pay ceilings looks like in tech?

Yeah, you should’ve already taken the offer.

Make hay while the sun shines… is this even a question? Or a humble brag to those that are stuck in consulting and struggling to make a switch!!

I romanticized being a consultant while working in industry. Then I got a consulting job, a couple promos, and now the idea of consulting just makes me roll my eyes. I love the pay and I don’t mind working hard, w/ long hours, but the “business of consulting” is exhausting (e.g. maintaining utilization, selling engagements, 6k iterations of a deck, etc). Great company, great co-workers, and interesting engagements.... I can’t be the only one feeling this way. Time to exit or is this a phase?

Thank you
