EdTech entrepreneur here with two questions:
1) What do you wish you knew before entering college and deciding what to study given what you know now?
2) Would you do a gap year after high school?
I am working on two edtech ideas focused on problems around career discovery and resource access.
One has an MVP of a resource directory. If you are looking for any career support maybe I can help by directing you to some resources.
Let me know if interested and we can chat privately, thank you!

I would say instead of a gap year to try to integrate those experiences throughout your years. Study abroad, work abroad, etc.

are you looking into doing this? nice suggestion and thanks for commenting

When we're in school, we hardly know about various career streams ( not sure about current scenario but back in 2010-2014 India) and stick with the popular ones!! So, in short, we just follow a pre defined path.
I strongly believe that a student should have the liberty to either:

1. Take a gap year to understand what interests him/her the most.
•Look for courses & certifications in that field (research),
•Career counseling (seek help),
•Try connecting with professionals who are working in the respective fields to understand the job prospects and the kind of work (networking)

OR

2. Start early(preferably in Higher/Senior Secondary School) and connect with seniors/family friends/ professional counselors to look out for career options and niche skills; In short, RESEARCH & NETWORKING

I very much agree - can I send a couple of questions? I am looking into addressing some of the things you mentioned

Unless you’re doing finance/accounting, your major doesn’t really matter. Your past performance doesn’t dictate future results and that everything will work out.

I did a gap year (1.5 yrs) studying abroad in Jerusalem

I wish I knew how hard life would be if I chose Art and Design as my major. I wish there were resources for me to try out different careers IN A FUN WAY before I had to choose my college major. I didn’t realize how detached a job would be from what I was taught at school. I then discovered business, and found it fascinating because it didn’t require a lot of math but allowed me to create strong impact, the very reason I originally chose art as major.

like

Could you clarify what you mean by "hard life"? What would help make it fun if something did exist?

After raising children I think 18 years old is too young to appreciate a gap year. I encouraged my kids to go to school get their generals done. Obtain an associates degree, then take a gap year to really reflect, travel, and have the time to decide how they want their lives to look. After teaching for 31 years I need a gap year to figure out what my next chapter of life is going to look like.

Hi everyone, wanted to come back and talk about the work environment at the Washington Redskins/Football Club -- the Washington Post story was pretty jaw dropping. One troubling angle was the use of NDAs to stifle victims. NDAs have for too long enabled bad behavior to continue, and it's time companies pledged to stop using NDAs in settlements with victims -- the coverup is worse than the bad acts. I think Warren torpedoed Bloomberg's campaign due to his use of NDAs. Thoughts?
