Embarrassed to be posting this but I may need to get an abortion. Has anyone gone through it and have any advice? My main concern is recovery time. I’m back at the office full-time and want to avoid taking an extended period of time off.

I love all these empowering, judgment free and supportive comments on this post. Seriously everyone on here is incredible. I agree that you have nothing to be embarrassed about and one day I hope this topic is one that women don’t have to feel ashamed about discussing. I went to planned parenthood and got the outpatient procedure. You need someone to drive you after because you won’t be able to drive immediately after but it is actually a very quick and painless process. It’s uncomfortable for about 20 seconds or so but nothing to fear. I had some light cramping for a few days after but was less than a period for me. I know it can vary but they will give you pain meds usually just in case. I would take a few days off just to safe. Try not to worry too much. It really is manageable and a lot of us have been there and know how you’re feeling. In my opinion, the hardest part is right now when you’re not sure what to expect and if feels overwhelming but i promise you it is going to be ok so just take the time you need from work and put yourself first because that’s all that matters. Sending hugs!

Definitely no reason to feel embarrassed. I had a missed miscarriage early in the summer after starting at a new firm. I took the pill based on the recommendation of my doctor. No one knows at my current firm and the day I found out, I told a partner that sent me an assignment I had found out some personal news and couldn’t get to it that day. He said no problem and assigned to another associate. I went to into the office the next day Wednesday to finish up some assignments. Took the pill before bed as recommended by my dr and spent Thursday and Friday wfh. It was quick and physically not painful. Mentally very painful and still working on it as I haven’t gotten a real period since and it took forever for my HCG levels to go down. It was also a holiday weekend so my lower hours those days didn’t send any red flags. I did some document review on a big case to get some hours and to take my mind off it. Back in the office Monday. Definitely still have tough mental days, so just remember to give yourself grace during those moments. Sending you big hugs!

Absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about. Recovery time for me was only about a day.

Wow I am surprised at the fact that full anesthesia is pretty common. I only had local for mine, felt it but was not in pain. But I did mine at like 6 weeks

Abortion is a valid and completely appropriate healthcare procedure. You have no reason whatsoever to feel embarrassed. Take good care of yourself.

likeupliftingsmart

I echo this completely. I don’t know anything about recovery times, but take care of yourself.

Hope you find comfort here and shed the notion of embarrassment. Love the support and lack of judgment from those that have responded and sharing of experiences ♡

Right?? I’m so happy to not only for someone to come forth about this “delicate” issue, but to also see all the support ❤️

No need to be embarrassed! Take care of yourself and take time off if you need. You also can just say you think you were exposed to covid so you’re waiting for a test to come back and working from home in the meantime.

like

I echo this! I had a rough couple of days awhile back due to some family stuff and I was crying a lot and could not bear to be at the office, so I said a friend I had dinner with tested positive for Covid so I was getting a Covid test and working from home until results came back.

Thanks everyone, I feel so much better. Grateful for your support.

This post really drives home to me how many fewer women would be at such high levels of this and other professions if abortion wasn’t an option.

Yes, nothing to be embarrassed about. Recovery time for me was about 2-3 days. Painkillers, stay hydrated and take the meds they give you to avoid infections and you’ll be fine.

I second this. I was billing 70 hours a week during mine. It was painful but you can be functional during it. Be prepared to have to change out maxi pads every two hours or so the first couple of days. You will get through this. Sending you hugs. Don’t be embarrassed to make the decision to do what’s best for you (in this and any situation).

Take a week. There is a mental health component that goes into this. Take the time to recover physically and mentally.

So glad to see someone say this. I would 💯 be accounting for mental health recovery.

See if you can schedule it for Thursday or Friday. Take the weekend to recover.

I have had abortions. None required an overnight hospital stay. The worst part is the anxiety which caused me to hyperventilate. Remember to breathe and try to relax. You will be fine. By the way I have 2 healthy children too.

I went the pill route and recovery time for me was only a couple of days. I did this in Texas (before the crazy law that came out recently) so I had to go to three appointments. The first was for the ultrasound. You can't get the pill on the same day in Texas because you have to wait to "think about it." So you get the pill at the second appointment, I think I scheduled this for a Friday so I could recover over the weekend. Then you go in for a follow up appointment and they do another ultrasound to confirm that it worked. I hope this helps. I know how stressful it is, but it's going to be okay.

Nothing to be embarrassed about. Please don’t let society make you feel you shouldn’t do what you want with your body.

Physical was the “easy” part, the emotional toll was a lot for me, maybe because I was young. But I agree with everyone, take a week .

Glad I’m not the only one to experience this. I’m thankful I had the option, and would do it again, but no one really talked to me about the “after.” Really struggled for a few years, better now but the memory still makes me sad.

Nothing to be embarrassed about! I agree with others, drink lots of water, dress comfortably, and definitely be prepared to change your menestral pad. I definitely recommend taking pain meds, as the cramps can get pretty intense, especially before everything passes through. Try to get rest if and when you can. This is definitely the time to put yourself first, so really take care of yourself. If you do the pill route, you should be able to drive home. If I remember correctly, things don’t really start moving until the second pill.

So my wife basically said she doesn’t want to have sex anymore. Don’t want to do anything about it. After couple kids, doesn’t feel it anymore. Also said it wasn’t anything I did and there’s no one else. I understand women’s body changes after child birth but can’t help thinking it’s gonna suck being in a sexless marriage. We’re still attractive and haven’t turned into couch potatoes…yet Happy Thanksgiving!

I can’t function. I don’t have energy to do the smallest things. All I want to do is sleep. I don’t have to feel pain or deal with life when I sleep. I left my job because of this. I have a history of clinical depression and this is the worst episode I’ve ever experienced. I made an appointment with a therapist and to get on meds. Do I qualify for state disability even though I quit my job?

I think I might be depressed. I don’t want to go back to normal society where we’re in the office. But I’m sick of staying here at home, chained to a desk and feeling the harshness of our industry through a screen all day with no one to commiserate with. I feel trapped between realities

Has anyone else had a background check recently - if so, how long did it take? I’m trying to get an idea for what I should propose for my start date…I really want to have some extended time off before I start.
