Average 4 hours total on the weekends.

My girlfriend is one and doesn’t work on the weekends. Unless a deal is crazy which is rare

like

Every weekend I tell myself I should do some work…every weekend I bill maybe 1 hour… and it’s always worked out.

like

Wow. So foreign to me… we have to work on every weekend sometimes two weekend days but I’m a junior…. I’m in funds.

like

I also do cap markets on top of my ECVC work (pretty common if you do “life cycle representation”) so frequently around filings

like

I’m in the EGVC group at one of those. Very reasonable workload. Any weekend work is usually client driven rather than partner driven, which to me is much better. I would say on average I work 2-4 hours a weekend, but 2 hours in the morning answering questions or making edits really isn’t a big deal to me. Happy to answer any more specific questions via DM.

EC/VC mid at Goodwin and we’ve been slammed for 18 months. I do some weekend work if only since it makes my weekdays better but rare is the DEFCON 1 all-hands-on-deck weekend situation where you’re rushing to put stuff together. Maybe if you had a close on Monday and needed to wrangle sigs or something but that’s not on the same tier as most M&A/finance weekend firestorms.

like

Yeah, there’s not really anything like that in EC/VC. If a turn of the main financing docs arrives on a Friday, I’m forwarding them to the client and telling them we’ll send them an issues list on Mon/Tues. Closings can be hectic and like I said, maybe you’re wrangling some signatures over the weekend but that’s usually remedied by setting expectations with the client about reasonable closing deadlines (your clients on the company-side are by and large going to lean on you a lot to tell them how process works so even if they want to hurry, you get leverage to push back a bit).

like

i left lev fin for this exact reason. by no means is ECVC lifestyle as it's still a very busy practice but there are less weekend fire drills. I still have PTSD from those Friday night staffing emails telling me that papers are expected to come in and client wants to sign papers up by Monday...and cue 4 days of back to back insane hours and then you might get a day or two to get back to your normal deals and then staffed again on another one of these juggernauts. Unless you have a burning passion for levfin and it brings you of joy to churn through commitment papers...I would get out. I retooled and feel so much better. I sometimes have a bit of catch up work over the weekend and I can usually control when I do it and have time to get some rest. I could never do that when I was in levfin and was constantly on standby because papers were "coming in" or sponsor wants grid responses ASAP

like

woo! i'm happy for you OP and hope you get to enjoy work that is fulfilling and does not intrude on your life 😊😊😊 I find folks here in ECVC can manage client demands a bit and say stuff like we can have this over to you by early/middle of next week. In levfin the partners would be offering up several turns of drafts over the weekend AND calls to go through comments.

Work at Wilson. Non PA office. Seems the ecvc work has a better qol. Not as much weekend work.

Been doing this for a month and a half at one of those firms. Have done 0 weekend work. Loving it. The best part is that I’ve barely even received emails on the weekends except for the occasional ones on Sunday asking for stuff on Monday .

My experience too with about the same time since I joined. Hoping it doesn't change! I think capM is different.

Do any of you lot worry about agism in the industry? I'm about 5yrs in and thinking about this more and more. Noticed thay most my colleagues, in mutliple agencies, were about my age with 5yrs give or take each way. Its obviously not a new industry, so either people were getting out of it by 35 or not many of them were getting hired past then. Been tellling myself ill learn to code one day to future proof but I've done fuck all so far. Anyone else planning for the future or am I being paranoid?

Prayers that I can keep my mouth shut at the office today ladies. Had an ambush meeting yesterday that completely blindsided me and my boss with feedback from my client. And of course, I'm scheduled to work with the client in person today. I'm still furious, but have a meeting this afternoon to verify the feedback since it was 4th hand. If it's true, I'm probably quitting because the client hasn't even indicated there's a problem and I can't do two-faced relationships.
