Every year. Everything off the walls, electronics packed up or covered, flag wrapped and put away, books put away, book cases covered, chairs stacked, and desks moved to the side. Even if I’m staying in the same room. Every single year.
Yes, we often have summer school at our school. But everyone has to clean up like that whether their rooms are used or not. 🤷🏻♀️
We r all blessed to be working and get paid through these times. We have it better than most..
No, they are blessed to have us still working. We are not 'lucky' to have a job. We earned our jobs. We are essential workers. Don't ever forget how important we teachers are to a democratic republic. We are not lucky to have a racist autocratic bully for a president.

OP Answer: At my old school you had to basically do the janitors job before you could sign out (btw our janitors vacuumed twice the entire year yet we needed spotless floors to check out) and everyone had to turn in their keys even if they were returning.
My current school we get to keep our keys all year (and have campus access on all breaks) and our cleaning duties were limited to just making sure surfaces were free of unnecessary items so janitors could clean them.
We can’t keep keys over the summer. But all other breaks we could. With admin working over the summer, we could get access as long as they weren’t waxing floors or painting.

I hear a lot about intermittent and inferior cleaning practices from schools and janitorial staff. These things will have to be addressed before students go back to school. Yep, we might have start as remote after all.
Teachers have gone back to the classrooms to retrieve student work and clean up so we can checkup. Rooms are supposed to be sanitized after each visit and doorknobs etc cleaned, not happening. How can we trust this will be done when students return if it’s not done now while it’s easy? Bad cleaning habits will remain bad cleaning habits 🤦♀️
No, we have access 24/7 to our building except the week before school when they are waxing the main hallways we have a schedule where we can be in building till 3 and then must leave for waxing to take place. Have always been pretty generous. It has been great.

Love that! My current school is laid back like that and it’s so nice! Sometimes you forget something in your room or want a quiet place to work and it makes life easier. I also use my room to store my books so I like having access to them whenever I want 😂
Every year we pack and take home all our personal items (everything in my room except furniture.) Turn keys & laptop in.) Label furniture.
Reason: clean/wax floors; possible painting AND you might be in a different room. I didn’t do this in my previous school.
Same for our achool. Interesting.
We have to take everything off the walks, but we can cover bulletin boards. Clue an out closets, nothing left out. Not poster paper on top of book cabinets, etc and go around with a sheet that needs twenty odd signatures from different departments. Once we have all signatures and our room has been inspected we have to sign off and turn in labeled keys used to be you couldn’t get your check until all of this was done. Then they started to require direct deposit which I was/am happy about. Happy because my money shows up a day before payday in my account. Then one year, 2015 I believe, the current micromanaging superintendent got the board to not DD our checks and instead waste money and pass out paper checks after we turned in the keys. We’d have two days to get everything signed which put even more stress on the secretaries in the departments. We, by contract can leave at noon on the last day but this process had people leavening at almos 2:30 like a full day. Our local union association put a stop to that. So now we get about a week and a half before the last day of school to get signatures and hand keys in last. Oh and the last day of school direct deposit was reinstated.
She did all of that without consulting our local which is a breech of board policy. After that, I never, ever, stepped foot on school grounds again until the first day back in September. Luckily I live in a state with a very strong teachers union.
We are required to turn EVERYTHING in and get signatures proving we turning everything in before we can get our final paycheck (last check is always a “live” check)
WOW, you all have a lot to clean up. I clean up if I want. Put personal stuff and electronics in my closet and that is it. They NEVER paint and all they do is wax the floor. Keep keys and computer at home.
Yes to all.

I haven’t had to give up my keys at our campus. I usually work in the classroom several days after the last day of school, then a few days in summer and especially right before we start. I’d sure have to get used to being restricted.
Yes to all. We not only move furniture and clean, we also do part of the IT dept’s job with any tech in our room. We are told to make a list of all passwords and take a picture of how the computer and any other tech is set up so that we can boot everything up ourselves when we come back to school. (I am free from the tech stuff in my current role as I don’t have an individually assigned computer or printer anymore.)
Same here in California
Yes we have to give up our keys at the end of each year. I've had to do that at all of my schools. We do have to clean up our room at my current school, but it's more of just moving everything off desks and moving the desks and chairs to one area of the room. My first two schools didn't really have us clean up our rooms much.
Yup. Every year.

Yes to all
I believe usually yes to all under our new admin, but this is my first year at the school... still made us give in our keys this summer even with quarantine and school closures. Had us come up for 3 hours to get personal items, pack up all student items, and pack up anything else we could in that short amount of time. The leaving teachers, some of who are retiring after decades of teaching, had ONE 8 hour day to move EVERY single thing out. 🤯 I can’t even comprehend that
What did your union say? Did you read your contract?
I get to keep my keys, chromebook and iPad and have 24/7 access. I don’t have to clean out my room. I just have to make sure the only things left on the floor are desks and furniture so carpets can be cleaned over the summer. Posters can stay on the walls and personal items are left in place as well. I do not have to do any kind of cleaning. The custodial staff takes care of that.
Same!
No. As long we're returning, we keep them. They're checked off to make sure we have them still before we leave for summer.

Keeping our keys at Georgia Middle School. No troubles here.
We have to do both things on my campus.
