Engaged, and beginning to do joint retirement planning. I’move got IRAs, 401ks, the usual. My fiancé says she’s never opened an IRA because her parents started a program for her under New York life. Went to the website and it seems like it’s completely different - some annuities, some life insurance that you can withdraw early (?). Anyone ever go this route or have insight into it?

Probably worth scrapping...but I have seen a few insurance contracts that were worth keeping if they were issued a while back(sometimes they are structured for the surrender value to be so low compared to future benefits as to make it worth keeping)...just depends on the details...but as a general rule, if you can stand any market fluctuation at all...cash value/permanent insurance and annuities have virtually no place in a young person’s retirement portfolio.

How do you get out of a funk? For the last couple of weeks I’ve not really cared about work. I’m a 2nd year doing insurance defense, mostly PI. My hours are low and I don’t care. All that and more, but I know I need to get over myself and get into a new rhythm/routine. Is this regular and what do you do to get out of it?

Hello, I am hoping to find some information about franchising:
1. Any good and reliable educational resources? (Some "reputable" resources seem to provide wrong info if my research is right, e.g., UPS stores - many owners seem to say it is rather risky, but ranked high by some entrpreneurship sources)
2. Thoughts on profitable franchises based on low risk appetite and 400k'ish investment.
3. Are franchising consultants on LinkedIn of any help?
4. Real experiences?
Thanks a ton for any advice.

Hi, I know this isn't the place to seek tax advice. I haven't sold a car so this doesn't apply to me just yet, but was curious on the overall topic and people's experiences if they've dealt with this.
If I bought a car and sold it for less than the initial purchase price, would I pay taxes on the difference between the sale price and cost basis? If so how would I determine my basis in such a rapidly depreciating asset? Trying to decide if selling is worth the potential hassle. TIA
