I've worked at the same engineering firm for 4 years. I'm currently making $161k with only a $750 bonus, but excellent vacation (4 weeks, cash out anytime, rolls over indefinitely), 45 hours a week. I have an interview with a recruiter at Guidehouse this week for a Technical Project Manager role. It seems to be focused in the government space and requires a security clearance. What sort of salary and benefits could I expect for this sort of role at Guidehouse?

How is everyone planning for potential layoffs?
McKinsey & Company McKinsey & Company been working here one year and received pretty positive feedback. Given the expectation for people of my tenure to transition to EM in a year or so, I can’t see myself staying due to the WLB as an EM. I’m 35 and have 2 young kids. Can it even be realistically done? Would love to stay but I don’t see a balance which would keep my family happy. What options do I have from there?

This is on a crazy project. Lot goes wrong time to time. I try to show leadership in strategic discussions with new ideas to solve issues - sometimes try to bring it back when we drift. In response to what I do, have been accused by SM (almost threatened) of doing myself harm than good. Not sure I understood it. He didn’t say much. I am terrified - if I speak up then I am accused. If I don’t speak up, I am probably not 'making the difference’, certainly not gonna get better reviews, maybe just meet expectations. Meet expectations will not cut it in promo year. What should I do? I am MGR going for SM.
Ask other confidants for their take on the situation. They will know if you are an alarmist (I am the same way) or maybe they know this person and can give you advice.
My piece of advice is that in a promotion year you need to be careful in picking your roles. Once you get on the role it could be too late.
Best of luck though
Try and better understand what the SM is reacting to. You need more information on how to adjust.
My gut says you are offering solutions directly to the client without vetting in internal discussions for feasibility, pressure testing, etc. If there is truth to that, have discussions with your SM before the meeting.
