Ethics Q:

I create usage reports based on available data. One report shows gaps in the pipeline which skew the results. Consumers requested that I fix it by inserting dummy transactions on the reporting layer, essentially "ghost rows" to adjust the final numbers.

My gut is telling me this is wrong. The db should be the source of truth and if a report uncovers anomalies, they should be addressed at the source to maintain confidence and integrity of the system and process.

What do you think?

Totally unethical. Go with your gut.

uplifting

I would clarify that with your customer first. Present your concerns and get to the “why” of the issue . Ethical question should have data from all parties wherever possible. Not sure that exercise has happened yet

like

Agree with your point, thanks for your perspective.

When you say "available data" does that mean these dummy rows are accounting for real transactions or not? If you are adding rows that show real fast that isn't in the database for some reason then no issues, but if it is just to not skew the data then very unethical.

These rows would be accounting for transactions that "should have been there" in the db but aren't as it's currently designed and would only appear in my dataset query results.

If it sounds and smells unethical, it is likely unethical.

Yeah, that would be fraud. No.

Absolutely not. And if you get strong armed into doing it, then get your concerns and their direction to go against your concerns in writing (email, etc).

Where can I start learning about retirement in America? I’m naive on the topic and originally from another country so I need reliable learning resources. I’m 31 and don’t have anything yet, except 6months in emergency fund and I started traditional 401k a few months ago, but can’t max it out currently as I make less than $70k right and single, so I’m currently putting 6% on a targeted retirement age portfolio.

Does anyone here use Gympass? My company just partnered with them and I’m wondering what the experience is like and if anyone would recommend.

I’ve been using mostly Classpass for the past few years, but it would be nice to have both studio and gym access if it’s as easy to use as they say it is. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
