Interesting, I’ve seen more used Porsches being sold at dealerships near me, and nearly no allocations (at least for 911 models). Selling 300k Porsches in 2021 is impressive.

Allotments are out there for basically everything but the 911. Neighbor was able to walk into the dealer and get an allotment 5k over sticker for a cayenne turbo no problem.

There are chips out there, article correctly points out that’s luxury automakers got their allotments to continue to make money whereas lower end brands did not like VW brand.

This is where the conglomerate helps, VW Group has massive buying power, and directed the chips they did have into more profitable cars such as Porsche, continuing to fuel the sales figures. Super interesting, great article OP.

There are several points here.
1) concept of sell vs concept of delivery: In many countries you order the car, is not in the stock, and you wait 3-4 weeks, even months. This happened before chip shortage. For america, is important if the numbers are "sell" as a concept of dealership orders or sell in terms of units delivered to clients.
2) Money abundance: In these times money is flooding everywhere, and thus, the appetite for cars, and more concretely, luxury cars.
3) Margin: A low-cost car company, probably cant negotiate and maintain production if prices rise, they have tight margins. Luxury cars can absorb the price rise at the cost of margin.
4) Buying power: Porsche is part of VW who can push their suppliers to get higher in the delivery list.
5) Prioritization: Inside VW group, they would most probably prioritize porsche or lambo rather than skoda or seat in their arrangements with suppliers, because of the margin and unit price. You need about the same number of electronic materials for a 911 than for a golf, but 911 prices 5x, so you prefer to produce 1 911 than 1-1,5 golfs, in terms of revenue and margin. Also they know the wave is temporary, as long as the money floods, so they need to ride it before market collapses and everybody will be looking for cheap cars.

When a job posting says 3-5 years of experience, does that mean a 3rd-5th year associate? Asking because there’s a bit of a discrepancy between the two, since if I graduated in May 2017, I’d be a third year associate this October, but only have two full years’ experience.

Hi, I'm currently working as Graduate Research Assistant at UBC. I've been practising case (50+) and fit interviews for a long time & fairly good at them now. However, strategy consulting firm don't even consider me for first round of interviews due to my non traditional background. I would value any suggestions that you may have on my resume. I's also appreicate any referrals for Tier 1 and Tier 2 firms in US/EU/UK at Associate/Associate Consultant positions. Thanks in advance.

Looking for ideas for fun summer weekend toy car. Wife & I have daily drivers and we live up north where number of warm days is small. Looking for ideas something cheap (sub $25K) but fun on country roads when I don't have weekend kids car pool duty.

Thoughts on importing from Europe, keeping European plates? I've always loved the aesthetic of this. I know it's a bit cheeky and the cost may not really be worth it, but I'm at a point in my life where it does not matter.

Is a high mileage Porsche bad idea? Test drove a 2016 Cayenne, has ~55K miles and it was amazing. Felt like a new car without the new car smell. The heart says go for it, but the mind scares me about the maintenance cost. I’d really appreciate some advice on what I might be walking into if I end up falling for it. FWIW this will be my first luxury car, upgrading from a golf r.

Compare and convince me … M240 or M440? I will likely have to order what I want. Torn between the two.

Driving my dads Ram 1500 with the 5.7 hemi for the next couple. I miss driving a V8 with the rapid acceleration and power but I really don’t miss paying for the fuel. My daily driver is a Chrysler 200 with a 4 cylinder and my other option to use while it’s in the shop was a 7.3 Powerstroke.

Very torn on leasing vs buying. Wife is frugal and wants to buy used SUV cuz we don’t rack up a ton of annual miles. I like flexibility of lease as I don’t want to deal with repairs and have 2 kids under four who will get vehicle messy + northeast winters. With budget around 30K if buy would prob go used Toyota Highlander Hybrid. If lease open to a lot of other options. Any advice?

Why go fast when you can go anywhere?

Are dealerships not negotiating car prices right now due to the chip shortage and high demand for cars? Or is it just the used car market?

Does anyone have any experience about the Nissan Leaf? Looking to get a basic electric car to do my local miles (about 10 k a year) and don’t need anything fancy in terms of speed, looks etc. specifically looking for reliability and range of 150-200 miles without breaking the bank and the leaf seems to be the least expensive car out there after accounting for federal rebates. Or are there better options? Will keep my ICE SUV for longer drives. Most charging will be don’t at home overnight.

Need some help with anxiety. I'm 28 and I want to get a nice car later this year but am afraid of being judged. I'm looking at the new Corvette, 911, Boxster, Taycan or AMG C Class. I don't spend money on expensive clothes or watches or trips but want to spend some money on a fun car, but don't want people to think I think I'm better than them. Would you judge or would you not care?

How do my fellow automotive fish feel about buying a used 911 4S convertible ? About 10 years old, maybe like 60k miles and up to 3 owners. Always wanted a nice car and honestly can’t afford a new 911 so thinking about this. Seeing some around 60-70k and plan to use for 5-7 years and hopefully then sell for about half (30-40 k). Is the idea feasible and anything I should be concerned about? Any tips (like model year / trim) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have an 2011 Audi A4 with 134000 miles, got offered 8100 which is a very good price given condition and miles, should I sell and maybe get a used bmw e46 for like 6k/ a clk320 from 2005 for 7k? I only need a car for the next 1 year. Or just keep the Audi and sell for 5/6k next year?

Anybody think the new KIA logo looks like a KN?

Is anyone looking at the 2021 Cadillac Escalade?

Alternatively, how about the current gen Escalade in hopes that they will discount it heavily due to the change in design?

Any insights and guidance would be much appreciated.

Looking to lease a 2020 E class Mercedes and the dealer is offering 15% discount off MSRP. Is that a good deal?
