Even though some job postings include the range, the recruiter still asks me what my desired salary range is? Im totally fine with the salary range posted in the job description - that’s why I applied. Do you guys usually give a higher number or just narrow the range down but stay within the salary range posted with the job description?

Just repeat back the range. You’d be surprised how few people actually read the job description so them asking is to ensure your expectations match.

I usually say something like, based on the posted range I think we can get to a number that will work for both of us and then go from there. That leaves it open for you to negotiate more upside if needed.

If they push, you can always give a range in response that straddles the high end of the posted range. If the posted range is $80-$100k for example you could not you are looking at 95k-110k.

Keep in mind there are other areas where you can negotiate additional value like additional vacation, signing bonus, increased bonus target, etc.

They might post tons of jobs and don’t remember it. You can say a number higher than a number you expect. When you get an offer, they always lowball it. It may meet your expected number or may not. Your next step after that is negotiating.

I always say I’m within the range. Then I counter the offer. By the time the offer comes you already know you’re the top candidate.

Should a DevOps Cloud Engineer with 2 years experience earning around 10 LPA (base salary) in a Fortune 200, switch to a startup which pays almost 20 LPA base salary?
The reason to ask this question is, wouldn't it be difficult at the time of second switch, to move to another big organisation after one is already at 20-24 LPA with just 3-4 years of experience at a startup?
All thoughts are welcome.

It’s been over a year since I’ve been employed at my company and I want to speak to my manager about getting a raise. What should I say / how should I say it and approach the conversation? I have talking points about accomplishments and list of other tasks I’ve taken on outside of my job scope. I also received a job offer that is higher paying and I essentially want my employer to match/exceed it as I do enjoy working at my company and hate to leave. Any advice/suggestions? A colleague of mine just informed me that she earns more than me. Not a lot. $1000. We both manage optometry practices for a large chain. I've been with company seven years and a manager for four. She joined the company a year ago with no optical experience. Her store is busier than mine, but I have the optical skills and she's still learning. I feel like we should be at least on the same level. Thoughts?

Originally interviewed for Community Relations Coordinator for set asking salary of $65k. Now owner wants to change title to Branch Manager, increased responsibilities, but primarily still CRC role. Same salary and now will decrease to $50k after one year with an increasing commission rate. The idea behind this is motivation to earn more than set salary. At this point, I need the income and am not planning on staying longer than the year, if that. Is it worth negotiating? Any advice welcome.

Okay so I’m frustrated and would appreciate any insight to the scenario below.

HR provides an initial offer.
I asked to elaborate on complete benefits package ie conferences, CEU reimbursement (no negotiation yet)
She needs to ask the CEO (not sure why she couldn’t ask the senior HR manager)
I state my salary expectations based on research, experience, education.
She has to talk to the CEO again to find out what is negotiable within the overall package
What’s going on? Ur job is to negotiate?
