Anyone familiar with Oliver Wyman 's military leave policy? I'm about to take command of a reserve company. If I join OW, I'd want to make sure I'm not incurring huge financial losses when going to BN-mandated events, Professional Military Education, Annual Training, etc.
Would also like to know if they allow mega backdoor roth contributions. TIA!

“Sorry, travel plans are already booked and non-cancellable/non-refundable. Good luck!”

If the trip is booked…is the client refunding me? Otherwise, no, I’m not taking a personal loss for them
This, do NOT take a financial hit under any circumstance. Either its important enough that they'll reimburse you, or its really not that important that you be the person doing the work.
Don’t move your vacation. Generally in your mind this is a big deal, that’s the cost. The partner only views it as a minor ask, that is the benefit. The cost always outweighs the benefit.
No one will remember that you did this.
“No one will remember that you did this” BINGO.

Agree with PwC 1… but I would say if you can be flexible this one time, next time that it happens or you need something you can use it as leverage. Like putting money into the unwritten IOU bank.
Yeah absolutely not. Being flexible one time leads to the expectation that you are flexible all the time.
I’m the shmuck who, unless it’s a family vacation, will still work with the caveat it won’t be full time and I won’t be immediately reachable.
I work on small teams so I have made a reputation as being very dependable even when OOO. However, it isn’t good practice and I don’t recommend it. I’m seeing a psychiatrist now for pity’s sake, hence calling myself a schmuck. I’m supposed to be OOO right now and all I can think of is getting some work done in peace and quiet without a million pings.
I worked with a partner who was quick to want to cancel everyone’s vacation plans whenever a new project came in. I’d always push back and say no, not until we really understood timing and staffing. This was in FDD so deals can die as quickly as they started.
That being said, I’ve had vacations and plans changed and interrupted by clients my entire career. I’ve never taken a vacation (or even a weekend away from home) without my computer. There are times that it’s unavoidable so you just have to make the best of it and limit the interruptions.

Yeah no this ain’t it
When I was at EY, we had the US wide PTO week for Fourth of July. I was a senior. Something came up with a client the Thursday before and they needed help during the week of Fourth of July. They asked the team if anyone was available to work. I volunteered. My coworkers didn’t because they either were traveling out of town or had family traveling in. I was local to the area and my family was too. My original plans were to do mostly nothing that week, so I didn’t mind working. I was able to take that week off at a later time and the partner allowed me to take an additional week of PTO. Once we delivered the work, I was also given $1,000 RAC.
If you are traveling out of town or have people traveling in, I wouldn’t move your PTO. If you’re doing nothing like I was, negotiate with your team.
