Every day someone posts asking “how do I leverage ‘x’ experience to land a job in ‘y’ company/industry?”. I’ve shared this many times via DM, but here it is in the comments for everyone to see. HOW TO GET ANY JOB IN SALES!

This applies to SaaS, and any kind of sales- if you want a job that you don’t fit the exact listing for you need to sell yourself. What does that mean?
1. Plan: where do my skills and experience align with the industry I’m interested in (ex. work in banking, move to ERP SaaS sales; work in retail or customer service, move to SDR role at CX Service company; etc.)
2. Research: find a few companies that fit your research, then see whether they have open roles.
3. Prospect: connect with hiring managers and/or current reps at the company, explain your interest based on the research you’ve done and ask for time to connect
4. Sell: Okay you got some time, now sell- that’s all recruiting is. Sell your skills and experience, build a relationship, find out what matters to the company and team
5. Close: tell them you appreciate their time, and that you would love the opportunity to join their team. You have the job requisition pulled up right now and you’re planning to apply, is there anything else you can do to assure them that you’re the right person for the job?
6. Rinse and repeat: this will not work every time because it’s sales, if you were closing 100% of attempts you wouldn’t be reading this you’d be on a yacht in Mallorca. Get back out there and keep trying until you get the job you want.

Anyone move to the “burbs” recently? We’re having such a hard time narrowing down where to look. Leesburg would be the furthest we would go out to, but ideally Arlington/Alexandria/Fairfax area. Budget $750k 3br 2bath and minimal immediate Renos needed. I feel like it’s impossible to find anything and it’s so discouraging. Total income $350k annually.

I have around 4 yrs exp in front end domain.
Good with Es6, React Js, Redux, commerce platforms.
Have leaded teams also.
My expectated salary - 20 lakh or +

Questions-
What should be my general expectation if I switch now? Is my expectations realistic in terms of market
Would this put me on higher side of risk or being cutoff if cost cutting happens anywhere. Would they think 4 years and 20lkh is not justified.
Just need to know the avg salary scale in market

So I’ve taught middle school and now I’m thinking I want to make the switch to high school. Those that have gone from middle to high school, how has that change been for you? Especially those in Alabama, did you have get additional certification? My license says 4-8 math, algebra and geometry

Hi Fishies,

I’m looking for some advice on the best companies to apply to as an AE/ Account Manager new to the North American market! The majority of the positions that I have previously worked are combined closer and customer service positions, completing end-to-end sales including the hunt, the close and the retention process!

My experience is in the FMCG sector, Real Estate and hospitality. I am interested in positions in the tech industry and would appreciate any referrals to companies.

I have been with my company 20+ years. This past year they did a sales market restructure - directions from new upper management. The restructure has been less than favorable toward my commission goals. The coming years don’t look promising. There are sales people making $$$ only here 1-2 years because they were given all my opportunities. It is hard to leave this company - it has been great until now with the changes. I have a very strong job offer elsewhere - but worried about non compete.

Tech companies are mostly built up of 22ish-40ish year olds (not data, just how it feels) which makes sense as tech has been booming for only 20ish years. What happens in the next 10-20 years when the ones who are older for tech now, become actually old for the workforce. Do we get phased out by young people due to lack of relevancy? Or will we have 50-60 year old SAAS sales people, project managers, etc, still in the space and about to retire?

However for these 4 months I've been grooming multiple focus accounts that are pretty much a slam dunk at this point.
