Every few months I feel like I’m over NYC and ready to move to a random smaller city or town. How do you know when it’s actually time to leave here?

When you visit somewhere else and you aren’t happy when you return to nyc. I find that every time I travel anywhere, I think “I could live here! That would be nice!” But then when I come home to nyc I’m like “lol jk what was I thinking, I love it here!” I think when that love is lost, it’s time to get out.

I’m currently looking into buying outside the city in a rural area instead of buying a million dollar tiny apt here. When I get sick of the city (since we’re pretty much all remote anyway) I’ll go hang out in my woodsy vacation home. I can rent it out when not using it, and sublet my apartment when I’m chilling in the woods. Win win!

That is our hope too.

Work remote and move. Keep NYC salary and live like royalty in North Carolina or something

100% possible. My manager just did it to live in Minnesota. If it’s within your own company currently, check your acceptance contract. If there is nothing about location vs salary, then technically you can sue if they pull that card. If you plan to accept a new remote job: - possibly move after you start, what are they going to do. -don’t accept an offer that is below what you are asking. Also, some allow for semi-remote work if you don’t mind traveling occasionally. Even before the pandemic our head strategist was based out of Colorado and would fly in and work a couple days every other week or so. Klick I know is almost exclusively remote, HQ In Toronto but offices in various cities.

I feel like this sometimes and I think I want to move. I go to an Airbnb for a month and all of a sudden I miss n by week 3. Every. Single.time. Try going o an trip first

NYC will always produce fomo. The moment is when you’re able to decide if it’s an illusion or not.

Ok tax serf

No time like the present! Try someplace new before you grow roots here.

As I’ve said to other friends, and now myself, it’s not Brigadoon. You can always go back. If you feel called elsewhere, why would you ignore that? To prove some sort of point to yourself? Life’s too short.

Anyone already work out an optimal combo for a couple that each consults on earning? We aren’t super advanced so basic choice is either both go Marriott, or split and one go Hyatt and Hilton

I am looking to switch careers. I have been in my current career for nearly 20 years. I need a change. I have masters degree in instructional technology, health care administration, and English. I am working on trying to work my current skills into today's job market. That is more difficult than I anticipated. I guess I'm wondering if there really is anything out there to switch to? I feel lucky to have a job, but it is getting very depressing and difficult to get up for work.
