Nor sure what you're arguing as most, if not all of us, know and accept this. The overwhelming majority of posts I see here deal with the rampant unprofessional behaviour of recruiters -- you know, the people who should be a face of the company.
My personal experiences:
-Told I'm "not worth that salary"
-Ghosted after THEY set up the call
-Ghosted after phone screener (can let this one slide)
-Ghosted after 2 interviews
-Frequently hear "I'm too busy to respond to every candidate" when that's very much their job. Trust me, I get as many if not more emails than you and am responsible for all of them.
I could go on but most recruiters tuned out at this point.
Yes, those are half of them. The other half are "who is a good recruiter for this region" or "why is the recruiter expecting me to tell them why I'm good at my job. "
I don’t ever expect a recruiter to find me a job. But do expect a recruiter to have some tact. For example: not posting from their company handle on the occasion they don’t have [any]
I see a lot of people posting on here as if they have no idea the recruiters get paid by the agencies looking for talent.
SC1, sounds like you’ve got some genuine bones to pick. A lot of people on here seem to feel they’re owed an email response from every recruiter they’ve ever spoken with.
I feel like I’m owed a response:
1. If I’ve actually met with somebody from the hiring company in person.
2. If the recruiter initiated the conversation.
3. If I’ve been told I will be hearing from them.
I’ve been ghosted multiple times in each of the above cases over the years.
Correct, recruiters make their money from agencies, so agencies are their clients, BUT candidates are their PRODUCT, so they should treat candidates with respect and cultivate them etc etc.
It doesnt make business sense for them to not return calls and emails and ghost candidates (and potential candidates) and pretend its because theyre busy. Its lame. Literally their job is a go-between. So they need to keep people happy on both sides, thats just good for their business. Thats why candidates are right to be confused, frustrated and upset with a-hole recruiters.
And for internal recruiters, they are definitely the face/voice of the company. They should know better.
Companies have an open position and work with a recruiter to fill it. The recruiter is looking solely for those positions, though they may build a pipeline. They do not offer you unsolicited, and their client is the company, not you. Therefore they put the candidate most likely to be hired in front of the company, and it's your responsibility to prove to the recruiter that candidate is you. They may become your advocate and ally when it's narrowed down to you and someone else's candidate, but early on they're talking to dozens to pitch a small handful.
You get what you pay for.
