Globalist is far superior to the top tier at any other hotel chain once SPG integrated with Marriott. I get automatic suite upgrades unprompted ~50% of the time with Hyatt, and if a suite is really important to me, I can get a guaranteed suite for a 7 night stay with 4 certificates per year. Suite nights with Marriott ime are garbage - they get approved maybe 30-40% of the time and half the inventory uploaded by hotels aren’t even legitimate suites. Hilton has no comparable benefit and IHG gives a 1 room upgrade if you purchase their status. Free breakfast is nice, but unlike Hilton and many Marriotts who have major restrictions on what is included (e,g., continental / cold breakfast only, no breakfast at almost half the Marriott brands), Hyatt covers a minimum of 1 hot entree, 1 side, and 1 beverage minimum but goes above and beyond at most hotels. IHG is lacking here as well. The downside is definitely the footprint especially in Europe, but they’re trying and have some nice properties on the radar with a Thompson coming in Madrid, Andaz in Prague and Lisbon, 2 Park Hyatts in London, etc but no one can match Marriott’s high-end footprint. The trade off is so you value better benefits at fewer properties or fewer to almost 0 benefits (for Ritz Carlton and EDITION hotels) but have more hotels to use points. Hilton lacks luxury properties in general (not many Waldorf Astoria and Conrad) - they have a large footprint, but almost all of it is cookie cutter mediocre stuff. IHG has a solid footprint, but InterContinentals vary in quality and aren’t as good as Park Hyatt, Ritz, St Regis, Alila, Luxury Collection, etc

What D1 said. Hyatt’s points are very valuable, and they try harder than the other brands. Plus, their international options are awesome. Only two cons are the smaller footprint, and the fact that their version of “lifetime platinum” is incredibly hard to get.

Hyatt rewards their elites the most by far. More valuable points and terrific service. The downside for Hyatt is footprint. You will always find a Marriott in your destination, and likely several options across budgets. This won’t be the case with Hyatt. Sometimes zero choices, often one (unless you’re in cities with countless hotels)

Because after 100s of nights at bland soulless Marriott properties, I don’t want to reward myself with a bland soulless property somewhere with sun.

Ive been a globalist with Hyatt since 2017. I love the suite upgrade certs we get. Can use one for up to a 1 week stay. Used one for Andaz Maui for a week. Cash rate was $1200 a night; I stayed for 175k points. Also got free parking, free breakfast, and waived resort fees for everyday. About $150/day right there.

The suite upgrade certs are sweet. I forget how Marriott does it, but with hyatt, you get the automatic upgrade to nicest room thing that all chains do… but in addition to that you get a set of certificates that you can use at booking to secure the suite. Like an AA SWU. They are really useful when you want to make sure your vacation is all-out.

When using points, you don't get stuck with resort fees, parking etc. Free breakfast means breakfast is free, no gotchas.

Does Hyatt match status from other hotels?

Tbh their globalist perks dont seem to differ much from Platinum Elite w Marriott...

I stay in Hyatt Regencies when I travel. Their version of Westin’s. I earn enough points to stay in a regency after about 5 nights, which seems pretty lucrative to me. Their ambassadors are also actually worth something as opposed to Marriott’s. Two years ago my ambassador called and just flat out gifted me America Airlines Executive Platinum status for a year (including 4 SWUs). The brand tries harder than Marriott and Hilton in my experience.

When traveling for work can we use our personal credit card for expenses or do we have to use the corporate Amex? Also does our corporate Amex get points/perks that we can use for personal usage? At my fiancés company they are able to use a personal card (which then they get all the points and perks) and then just expensive to they company.

Interested in moving into this space, eventually, once I get more experience. What career paths exist within CSR?

Recently joined a consulting firm and have a corporate AmEx now. I am planning on paying the $95 fee to get the points from corporate expenses. I also have only a chase sapphire preferred. Is it worth picking up a Gold or Platinum card to pool all the points in one place? I eat out a lot and mostly redeem points for statement credit or the occasiaonl hotel room (use Marriott). Don’t do a ton of personal flying. Thanks in advance.

Tech company lay offs….are they soon to be inevitable?! There is lots of companies really taking a hit in the tech space. Is this something that people are nervous about? Many seem to still be having a hiring push but with the button falling (IMO this is still just start we have a long way to go to bottom out) will that halt and layoffs ensue? And if so, which depts do you think will get hit the hardest? Anyone have insight to what the plan is at UpStart for example?

Fishes, would love to have your thoughts on this - I graduated school last year and have been aggressively paying down my student loans (50K left now, started at 91K last summer). With a recession looking likely, should I revert to minimum payments and save more? For context, I have enough saved right now for 4-5 months of living expenses plus some additional money in 401K.
