Associates here get nickel and dimed on salary (less than $100k), no cost of living increases, no wfh, no bonus, mediocre benefits, and ridiculous hours expectations despite “no billables”. Due to Covid, I was let go from my firm after only a few months of working there. I’ve since been rehired in the last few months. This is a new area of law for me and I’m not enjoying it at all. How soon could I think about leaving? I’m going into my fourth year and don’t want to get pigeonholed.

My firm has ~50 attorneys and is the best in the field. all decisions are made by one man, eg bonuses, raises, promotions. There is no transparency. The only objective measure might have been billing. The billing requirement is 1900/ yr, but a total of ~200 hours are no-charged automatically, and he goes after closing the case and no charges hours based on factors unknown. The result is that no one can track their own billables, and the criteria for bonuses are a mystery. Is this normal?
