I chill until someone sends me an email to do something. I don't actively seek work. Ever. We make way more than enough in our base to really care about the marginal improvement our bonuses to care whether we hit 2000 hours.
100% this.
I had a quiet few days (billed only 2 units on Wednesday) and then -BAM- new matter on Thursday. I only joined 3 months ago and I never seek out work - they’ll always find you.

It happens. And no one is expecting you to hustle for more work on Friday at 4:00 pm. But come Monday, it'll be time to reach out.

I sit tight and chill unless it’s been multiple days and I’m not coming off a busy period. Work will come later.
Most weeks I bill a ton M-Th, then only bill 4-6 on Friday.
Yeah a couple law school friends of mine are at firms that track daily billables, and they get “spoken to” if they have more than ~2 slow days in a row. It’s so stupid.

Not often but first week of Jan after a crazy year-end is when it tends to happen in my practice (and was the case this week, thank God). If I’ve been slow a few days and I’m worried about my hours (or I want to be staffed up enough I can say no to bad partners/deals) I ask for work from the people I like working with, but I get enough offers that I usually don’t bother.
I think that’s pretty common in corporate departments. It seems like half of the M&A and cap markets people have been OOO this past week at my firm.
