Ex-Consulant here that now works for a big name Real Estate Investment Trust. Saw on LinkedIn that EY has an America’s REIT Leader. Didn’t know that much attention was paid to the REIT space. Are there really consulting teams dedicated to the REIT space in the Big 4? Love working for a REIT and would love to jump back to consulting if there were teams dedicated to the industry.

I am former PwC - they have a pretty decently sized real estate practice and publish RE trends reports annually. In particular, their hospitality practice does a lot of thought leadership in the industry. PwC has a presence in all aspects of RE though.

Can't comment much on consulting but I'm an auditor on one of the sp500 reits. We do indeed have quite a large amount of REIT clients to the point we call ourselves a leader in the industry of auditing REITs and home-builders haha, so take that as you will. Whether that translates into consulting opportunities I'm not sure though.

Thanks for the input! In my experience with real estate at big 4 all the REIT and real estate investment work is tax and audit and all the consulting work is corporate real estate. In my experience the corporate real estate is never really even real estate heavy work, it’s just finance and change management consulting for real estate companies.

I know there is a growing presence of apps allowing people to invest in a "REIT" and passively earn rent that way instead of owning/managing on ones own. It's like a tech/real estate cross over so that might become an interesting sub-industry if it picks up more publicity.

Do you think an MBA in my scenario makes sense?
Currently a L62 at Microsoft as a PM, which is the post MBA level (I have 3 YOE). I have a desire to try out VC investing or ops, and an MBA might open up my doors. However, I’d be giving up a massive opportunity cost (in those 2 years I’d probably make senior pm at msft) and don’t need an MBA for lateral big tech moves. Don’t want to get an MBA and strike out at VC

How would that play out with a construction loan? Anyone care to explain, please?
