Get drunk every night for week or so. Talk to doctor, how much do you drink? In last week i drank a fifth of (hard alcohol) a night. Can I get a referral to a detox clinic? Find something in the mountains of Montana or wherever. Go on short term disability. Tell people when you get back that they taught you how to better manage your alcohol. Also if you get invited to meetings you don't want to go to just say 'im working on my sobriety right now'.
Could you take medical leave? Or ask for a different role? I guess I just worry about your health, including health insurance.
My SO had a panic attack on the way to work (different industry). Went to the doctor during lunch and explained the symptoms (he thought he was having heart issues) and the doctor put him on medical leave for 3 weeks. If you are chronically exhausted may be worth getting checked out.
That's some next level evil shit right there, AM. I think I love you?
I'm currently on a break. Feelin rested/restless again so I'm ready to start back up, hopefully my next gig brings better experiences. Been painting with my off time. 👍
You could ask for a sabbatical?
Wait, are you suggesting faking alcoholism? Great short term solution but that'll stay on your permanent record for decades (fuck up your insurance and prospects for higher level employment later).
If you meet all the criteria according to the manual and you go through detox, is it really faking? But yes, that's what I'm saying. Anytime you get asked about something you overcame, boom story time. Not saying alcoholism isn't a real thing but before life turns shit and you turn to alcohol to cope, do it now and get the benefit of not being reliant on it but all the benefits of people who were reliant on it. In the future if you ever need to go on a nice long vacation just say you need to work on your sobriety (it works for pretty much everything). So yeah it stays on your permanent record, which is awesome, if you don't actually have alcoholism because real alcoholism is shitting as hell. But not having alcoholism and pretending you do, awesome.
It doesn't look that bad but it may be good to make up a better story. "Wrote a book" or "travelled the world" etc I'm sorry to hear you are feeling this way. It's vital to get perspective so do it. You may return faster than you expect and it's probably a great idea
I did that, took 6 months off. (Sustained myself with freelancing in between.) Granted, I did it after being in the industry for 5 years so it wasn't like I was an entry-level who wanted to burn the world after a few months. I explained honestly my reasons and what I did while I was freelancing and obviously I got a job because I'm at Havas now. Tell a good story, don't be an idiot about how you structure your break, and you'll be fine. Life happens. Most decent people can get that.
I went through this, accompanied by thyroid issues, anxiety, and depression. I left the agency without a back up plan - I don't think people realize that when you're undergoing exhaustion, a back up plan is not on you're mind. You can barely focus on anything other than wanting to hibernate the exhaustion away. Well long story short, it took me longer than 2 months to recoup (half a year to be exact). There were days where I felt useless to society and weak compared to the benchmark I set for myself. Now that I'm back in the work force and looking back at my time off, I am so appreciative of that time. It allowed me to really reflect, ask questions about myself, picked up new hobbies. So with that I encourage you to please invest in yourself. You can't really give your best and all (to others, your work, agency, etc.) if you aren't feeling you're at your best.
Can you do something less severe? Also, are you sure you aren't sick, thyroid etc?
Do it. Just make sure you spend your time wisely and have some cash in the bank for the few months of interviewing after
I love you too CD1. Mornings are my evil time 😈
burn out. they have insurance to handle it so you can get support (including time off & CBT) without having to leave ... jus sayin
it depends on how long you've been in your current role - 3-5 years - shows you're stable and needed a break. less than a year - shows you can't sit still for too long.
A brilliant girl I worked with has been off 8-9 weeks. Her life scenario allows her to. Since, she has become incredibly (more) grounded. So long as you have a "lessons learned" part of the interview, it's no different than taking (a year of) maternity leave in Canada.
Your story is yours to craft.
Take the time. I had to take two months off recently to get over exhaustion. Don't make up a story about it either. Burnouts are a problem in this industry. The most positive impact you can have is to speak out about it.
